Make sure it's connected properly and that there are no loose wires in the connector. You can also try plugging it into a different temp probe port. Otherwise Roberto might have some other suggestions for you.

Did it ever report correct readings?

It seemed to be reading right, then within 30 min it was 185!

Can you check the wires?
That almost seems one of the wires got broken or shorted.

I have more than one temp probe and I tried another and temp seems to be correct.. Another question, I can only get the app to pull up info on my iphone when my phone is connected to the in house wifi, not when I am out of the house using the 3G...any ideas?

either your tank is boiling :-) OR more likely your reading is 18.5 degrees , decimal can be hard to see on the display
