Generally the Genicanthus Sp. are reef safe. Naturally they are plankton eaters. Unfortunately they are a bit pricey and harder to come across especially for the males and/or good specimens. Their natural habitat can be deeper then 130ft so they are hard to catch and require a diver with exceptional skill. The price is justified though after hearing what is involved to get these fish back to us.

Check out some of the available species of this genus. As they age and are well fed the males tend to develop crazy long streamers. Be careful, once you get one... the hunt is on for your next. Very active and require a larger tank. My two males get along well and spend a LOT of time chasing the females. Due to being so active they require a lot of food. Consider them similar to Anthias as far as feeding requirements are concerned. They are pigs and produce a lot of waste. If you see one and like it, buy it. It could be a good while before you see it again.

Well last night I ended up in the ER. I was cleaning my right overflow of palys and used hot water to clean the grating. This vaporized palytoxin that was in the palys which I then inhaled.

I got lucky. Could have been a whole lot worse.

1 gram of palytoxin can kill 80 people or a million mice. Just something to keep in mind.

I got careless over the years and it almost did me in. Educate yourselves and please wear protective gear when working in your tank.

Zoa's are bad too :/ glad to hear your alright!

Yup zoas are bad as well and there have actually been some recent finds that the toxin can actually migrate to almost anything within close proximity.

On another note. Just got news of my hospital bill... $8600. Those were some expensive green palys
