Unreachable address and Iphone not working

Post by Dboyfx »

I have had my reef angel set up for a couple months now and everything was working properly for a while but now I can't seem to get the Iphone app controls to work. I have not made any changes to the code. I have a dynamic dns name setup that auto refreshes and have that configured in the address settings on the Iphone app. The My Tank option shows my temperature, but the Controls tab just says updating and never connects. I have tried changing direct connect off/on but that didn't help. I also tried rebooting the reef angel controller too. Also, when I connect to the portal, it says unreachable address. That used to work fine too. Any ideas?

No, just a green blink. Also, the portal has all of the correct info for the controls, but I can't toggle them. The Iphone app does not display the control info at all.

Can you ping the wifi attachment?
I'm assuming you can't browse http://ipaddress:2000 either, right?

Correct, no ping and can't browse to that address. I used to be able to though.

Can you power cycle the wifi attachment and see if that does anything?

Just power cycled and it works now. I had tried that several times today, what changed?

Thanks for your help, I was just wondering if there is anything I can do to keep it from happening again. Or is it normal for it to lose its connection like that?

I did the firmware upgrade and had access for a day. The WiFi began exhibiting the symptoms described above. I disconnected it and let it set for 10 minutes and plugged it back in. Still nothing. I did a restore factory settings, reconnected and set it up again. Works great for a while. Blue light never comes on just the slow blinking green light. So every morning I go get the WiFi attachment, rest it, and set it back up again. I did notice that using the iPhone app can cause me to disconnect if I attempt to turn things off and on.

Anyone?

Not sure if your issue was the same that I had before, but whenever my router gets rebooted (or power failure, etc.) my router tends to dynamically assign a different IP address to my WiFi attachment. The problem is that I had the port forwarding setup using the specific IP address it was originally assigned.

So, my fix was to manually go into the router settings and change the port forwarding IP for the WiFi and then a simple refresh on the Android app and I was fixed.

It's possible that when you power cycled your WiFi unit the router happened to assign the proper IP address the last time... which fixed the problem. Can't say that's certain because I don't know how you set yours up to work... but it's something to consider looking into if it happens for you again.
