Problems communicating with RA+

Post by xulio »

Hi,

I just got the RA+ and was following up instructions in the manual like a good boy. I connected the RA+ to my Mac after installing all the latest SW (Reef Angel 1.0.2 upgraged to 1.0.3) and the FTDIUSBSerialDriver_10_4_10_5_10_6.
I selected: Tools>Board>Reef Angel Plus Controller and Tools>Serial Port>/dev/tty.usbserial-A901MIEL

The unit is connected using the appropriate pins on the head unit, and I've tried it powered with the relay box or the USB connected to the middle temp sensor.

When I open File>Sketchbook>Example Codes>InitialInternalMemory, and hit upload, the code compiles but it times out while sending the code to the unit.

This is the output on the IDE:

The following features were automatically added:
Watchdog Timer
Version Menu

The following features were detected:
Simple Menu
Binary sketch size: 7,414 bytes (of a 258,048 byte maximum)
Rebooting Reef Angel Controller
avrdude: stk500v2_ReceiveMessage(): timeout
avrdude: stk500v2_getsync(): timeout communicating with programmer

BTW, I've tried this on 2 different Macs using 2 different Mac OS X versions. Hopefully I'm missing some silly step.

Also I've tried Tools>Serial Monitor. No luck. The unit does not reboot when that window is opened or closed.

Thanks.

At the top of the program. Go to tools, board, and select ra+

Does the controller reboot a few seconds after you hit upload?
It should happen when you see the message "Rebooting Reef Angel Controller"

With the cable connected to RA, plug and unplug the usb end from the computer. Does it reboot now?
