DC pumps

Post by jsclownfish »

So, I'm trying to plan out a jump from my 75g to a 240g system. Part of the plan is to upgrade my waterflow strategy from the Koralia's to a more controllable wave generator. I had planned to move to the controllable powerheads, but now with the price and control for the DC pumps, I am rethinking that idea. Could I mimic a closed loop system by using two DC pumps (cheaper than a digital switch or ocean motion) and alternate currents and flow from plumbing from underneath (or buried in the sand bed)? It would be nice to get away from those ugly powerheads hanging around on the glass.

Thanks,
Jon

I don't think you can create waves with the DC return pump.
They are very slow response.
You can definitely alternate flow, but just for you to have an idea, it takes about 30 seconds for it to go from stopped to full speed. It gradually ramps up.
Roberto.
