Temp sensor a little short

Post by Reefology »

is there anyway to extent the sensor? trying to get the controller away from under my cabinet (get it away from sump to avoid potential mishaps or salt creep) and limited by the 3 ft sensor.

I have a waterproof DS18B20 from a temp controller but i get a error message when I try to connect to head unit. I really don't want to order another sensor as the shipping here to Canada is more than the sensor.

Thanks in advance...

Search for "3 pin fan extension" on Ebay.

You can use it. You'll need to be careful hooking it up, though. Here's the picture I use. The black bars are the ridges on the connector that go facing the back of the unit. DO NOT GO BY WIRE COLOR! Look up the specifications for your probe and match them to the correct pins!

If your controller is rebooting then something is wired incorrectly.

I don't think you need a resistor. IIRC, that's for older RA head units, unless you were looking at something else. Check polarity one more time. If you're using a 3 pin fan connector then the wire colors will not be correct. You have to go by signal type. Once you get the polarity correct it shouldn't reset, but you will need to cycle the power to get it to see the new probe.

Also be aware that T1, T2, T3 are determined by a serial number internal to the temperature sensor. If your new probe has a lower number, it will be T1.
