Flow control

Has anyone considered using one of these to redirect flow from the RA?

I'm sure they could be incorporated and controlled, I just don't know how you might use them in the aquarium setting as opposed to just controlling the pumps. Perhaps if you had a backup problem in the sump you could trigger a redirection of the flow to maintain flow.
Any other ideas?
