Problems with RA Controller

Post by Qball »

Hi All

Very new to Reef Angel. Got my hands on a standard RA this week but am having a few problems.
Firstly the board says Reef Angel Main Unit 6.1 so I'm told that is a standard controller.
How do I know if it has optiboot?
Hooked it all up, installed the arduino software and used the wizard to set it up like I wanted it. Plugged it in near my tank and all seemed well... But I noticed that it jams up after about 10 mins. Sometimes the screen goes scrambled and the unit becomes unresponsive and sometimes the colours on the screen change and it wont respond. Any idea what on earth is going on?

I then tried to reinstall the RA preloaded code and it wont work. Keeps throwing up an error that the sketch is too big.
I've tried selecting all the different boards under tools aswell and it still throws up the same error.

Some info that may be required.
If I access the version on the RA controller it says v1.1.1
I am using arduino v1.0.1
I am using the option as upload as code, not to memory.
Using windows 8.1

Some assistance would be greatly appreciated as I've only ever heard positive things about RA and am looking forward to it making my life easier.

Thanks a mill!

It's most likely the optiboot version.
The non-optiboot version was released in the very early stages and only a few were ever sold.
Does it look to have any water damage in the head unit when you open it up?

Its only about a year old so optiboot it is.
As for the water damage, it was never used so its still in perfect condition. The board is very clean so no water damage.

On a side note, managed to get the code to load. Changed a few things to make it smaller and it loads now.
Still jams after about 10 to 15 mins though. When I click the joystick, I can hear the relay box clicking so its still working, but I just can't see what I'm doing... :(

I think it is just the screen according to what you mentioned.
You can get a replacement on the webstore.
