Extending Cables
How far can the temp probe be extended? I am plumbing a tank in the basement and would like to run one of the temp probes about 30 ft. Is this to far?
Also in this same application can a secondary relay box be extended this distance? Best to use a longer serial cable, usb cable or combination of the two? I would use the RANet but would also like to add a few modules to the second box.

Re: Extending Cables
I'm not sure about how far the cables can go, but you can't add modules to the second box.
The USB, and dimming ports are non functional. Only the power ports work on the 2nd relay so the RANet maybe your better option.

Re: Extending Cables
Used 20 ft of wire and a 10ft RA temp probe. 30 feet was a good est. It appears to be working well. Now I have a live feed on my frag system.
Since the usb port on a second relay box would not serve a function I will most likely go RANet but might look into trying to see if I can get a good signal from usb at that distance.
To add more temp probes you can splice the wires and run them in parallel?
Thanks so much for the help.

Re: Extending Cables
I don't think splicing the cables in parallel wil work.
The readings will get mixed together and how will you tell which is temp 4 and which I'd temp 5.
I'd like to you how to add more too.
Roberto says you can add upto 6, but it a hardwate modification.

Re: Extending Cables
Yes, just splicing in parallel works. This is the hardware mod needed.
You also need this in setup

Code: Select all
ReefAngel.AddExtraTempProbes;

Re: Extending Cables
Cool. I will grab a few more probes on my next order. I was thinking It would be good to add one for my water change barrel as well as basement room temp.

No problem. The debug version has been pretty stable besides those issues we've pointed out.
