Reef Angel Star Controller
Re: Reef Angel Star Controller
Reef Angel Star dimming, where is the connector? How do I hook my wires into it?!? Please help!
Re: Reef Angel Star Controller
It's the RJ-45 port on the bottom. Next to the leak detector which is a smaller RJ port (6pin vs 8pin). There is a picture of it in the manual and the pin-out.
Re: Reef Angel Star Controller
Understood. But where do I get this connector?? Any special tool required??lnevo3 wrote:It's the RJ-45 port on the bottom. Next to the leak detector which is a smaller RJ port (6pin vs 8pin). There is a picture of it in the manual and the pin-out.
Re: Reef Angel Star Controller
It's an ethernet connector. Just cut the end off of an ethernet cable and there you go.cgonser wrote:Understood. But where do I get this connector?? Re: Reef Angel Star Controller
Hi All.
In regards to the 4 dimming channels on RA*, is it possible to connect 4xd120/evergrow led lights to it, which would need 8 dimming channels? Are the 4 dimming channels PWM only on the RA*? I also have a dimming expansion so I can connect it there also, but would like to mix in 4 lunar lights which will need PWM. So which way would you suggest is the best way to connect these 12 channels?
Thanks,
Tim

Re: Reef Angel Star Controller
the star channels can be changed from pwm to analog and from 10 to 5 volts, just like the dimming expansion.
you may need the 16ch dimming option that exists but i don't know much more about it. otherwise with the 4 built in and the 6 expansion, you would be 2 channels short of 12.

Re: Reef Angel Star Controller
Would it be possible to run 2 of the dimming channels from the d120 into one of the expansion ports or the RA*? I'm not sure how much current can the channels can safely handle. I understand it's that only one lunar light per channel.
Thanks for the support.

Re: Reef Angel Star Controller
Yes. You can connect many drivers to a single channel. The lunar module doesn't have a driver and that is why you can only connect one.
Roberto.
Re: Reef Angel Star Controller
Okay cool. I'll run all the lunar lights off of the dimming expansion, and have all the d120s connected to the head unit. Just starting to play with the unit. Looking good. Great work on the design!
Thanks again.

Re: Reef Angel Star Controller
Roberto, we need a cool RA star themed web banner for everyone using the new controller
Re: Reef Angel Star Controller
I've noticed that the RA* relay box now defaults to Box1_Port(n) for the main relay. Previously the main relay didn't have a box# preceding it. Going to add another relay box so I may have to change the second relay box dip switches to box2?
Is there any way to tell what the name of last firmware I pushed out to the RA, either over the portal or over local was?
On the status screen the line that states "Cloud Connection" always states Disconnected, is this normal? I have been able to push out firmware over the network so I don't think it's a problem. But is there a way to add a timestamp to the last time the cloud connection was made?
Thanks,
Tim

Re: Reef Angel Star Controller
Correct on the boxes. All relay boxes are expansion boxes. So set first one to id 1 and the second as id 2.
If connection is showing disconnected, the username/password is wrong.
Did you update the password? Your login was created well before the cloud server came online and you need to reset password so the cloud server can authenticate you.

Re: Reef Angel Star Controller
Okay cool. I've changed my login credentials. I won't be able to check the connection status until later tonight.
Thanks,

Re: Reef Angel Star Controller
The connection problem has been fixed with the password update. However I am having some issues with the relay turning on when the RA* has been inactive. I had my lights to turn on at 10am, I checked the portal and everything looked fine. However when I got home the lights weren't on. I touched the LCD screen so that the screen wakes then the lights turn on. Do you know what would cause this issue? I'll test this issue again in the morning.
Thanks,
Tim

Re: Reef Angel Star Controller
If you're using Internal Memory, make sure and review all the values on the new controller.
Re: Reef Angel Star Controller
I used the settings in code so didn't think much about the internal memory. I looked over the internal memory and corrected some of the values on the webportal. Does the webportal upload the internal memory settings to the controller after saving it?
Thanks

rimai wrote:Are you talking about the main relay box of the RA+?
If so, it does not.
RA* only accepts expansion modules.
In order to use your main relay box as expansion, you need one of the old relay expansion modules, which we are in the process of getting them built to sell in the web store.
They cost $50.
We only have one of them in stock before we get the next batch.
Roberto - any update on the status of the old relay expansion modules?
Re: Reef Angel Star Controller
when I loaded my code none of the time schedules are working properly, all my lights stay on. also when I go in to try reloading my code I cant get the com3 to show up, theres no ports listed. I cant figure out how to get the cloud working either. instructions are very vague.
Re: Reef Angel Star Controller
also the touch screen works intermittently, is there some bugs with this thing or am I doing something wrong?
Re: Reef Angel Star Controller
Did you install the plugin?
Does it show plugin connected?
How did you loaded your code if there are no com ports listed?
Did you reset the password for the forum? Your username was created way before the cloud server came online. There is a note stating that you must reset or it won't authenticate you

Re: Reef Angel Star Controller
I did install the plug in. It shows connected. I had com 3 once, now I don't. Cant get it to come back. I did reset the password. I'm lost with this star and thinking about hooking my plus back up. My screen is intermittent, sometimes won't even turn on when touched. My ports issuing the time on/off programming don't turn off, ever. I bought the TL wifi adapter, set it up as client and hooked a LAN cable between the two. Not sure what's wrong but frustrated. Any help, please and thank yourimai wrote:Did you install the plugin?

Roberto, I moved the star over to my primary account. All is working fine. Will the Main Relay Box ever disappear from the portal?
Re: Reef Angel Star Controller
I have noticed that if the network connection is not available, there is a delay in the device responding to touchscreen touches and updating the display. I found this out when I was working on my firewall rules and a separate dhcp server. I haven't looked into it more closely, just mostly sharing with everyone.
