Wifi attachment with WPA1 encryption

Post by rimai »

Hi,

Has anyone ever sucessfully connected to a router using WPA1 encryption?
I've only heard of one case of problems with WPA1, which were solved by upgrading to WPA2.
So, I'd like to know if anyone else had any problems.

I initially had problems connecting to a WPA1 encrypted router. I wrote it off as being the router and such. I waited until I got all my routers together and was able to test things out.

After a long time of wanting to try this out, I have managed to successfully connect to a router using WPA1 encryption. Just to let everybody know what my setup consists of:

Setup:
  • Router: Asus RT-N16 running DD-WRT v24-sp2 build 13309
  • Wireless Network: BG - Mixed
  • Channel 6
  • Security: WPA Personal (WPA1)
  • WPA Algorithm: TKIP
Wifi Module:
  • Channel Auto (set w c 0)
  • Authentication: WPA1 (set w a 2) or Mixed (set w a 3) - both worked
  • Rate: 54Mb (set w r 15)
  • DHCP enabled
I tested out all three WPA1 algorithms: TKIP+AES, AES, TKIP
I used the same SSID, password, and channel for all the tests. The TKIP+AES and AES did not work. So it appears to me that the AES and WPA1 is not working well together....at least in my setup.
My SSID is all characters and no spaces. My password is characters and numbers without any spaces.

So that's what I've got. A working combination/setup with WPA1 between router and wifi module.
