Kalkwasser can keep your calc/Kh and pH stable up to a certain amount of corals... and at a fraction of the cost. It's so cheap to buy kalk mix I do wouldn't bother making my own. Think it's $11 for a gallon of it from BRS and I only use 6 teaspoons per 5 gallons of fresh top off water....

What about clogging ATO pumps/lines?

I've never clogged any line...? the Solids should be fully dissolved.... just pumping water.. And the pumps are siphon free so the only time there is air in the line is when you first start pumping on first use and if you ever let the pump run pulling from an empty container...
