WIFI connection

Post by estanoche »

Trying to install a new wifi module (had a gen 1 unit that I could never upgrade past v2.3 and it was still the devil) and can't seem to get my new 4.41 unit to hold a connection.

It shows connected; but after about a minute the unit goes to fast "no IP" blink mode and I really never have a connection even though it says I do. I've gone through my router settings, but the old unit I had worked, with timeout issues, so I really don't know/think what may need to be different with this firmware.
<4.41> get e

Help? Suggestions? Currently I have this on a Motorola Surfboard SBG6580; WPA2-PSK and WPA-PSK enabled with TKIP & AES active just to try not to limit myself.

Only thing I see different from my previous code is this one doesn't select WPA2 as a wlan auth and only does mixed..

Also - when I listen on teraterm, it gives me a "disassociated - LOST-AP " message. From what I understand that is just telling me what I already know, that it really isnt associated even though I want it to.

And - I have done this and ran this macro multiple times: http://forum.reefangel.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4601

It looks like it is disconnecting from the router for loss of signal.
How far is it from the router?

Hmm well; when I put it right next to the router I get a signal - but I cannot get it to respond to a ping. Since I still have my antique unit, I did some live testing - same network.

Antique unit connects, works as programmed:

Code: Select all

get e

PS - I tried auth 0 to set the new unit to OPEN like the antique, that doesn't help.

Other ideas? What incongruity have I missed?

Are you able to try on a different router?
Neighbor, work or friends?
If so, does the same problem persist?

Hmm I can put testing on my old router on my list of things to do - issues I foresee... 1) the router only supports WPA1-PSK, does the 4.0 firmware support WPA1 OK ? 2) To get it to work I have to bridge from my all in 1 router/cable modem which I have never tried before... I could just never set it up right and fail all the tests.

What kind of router do you use that has proven to be error free? This All in 1 unit gives me headaches from time to time - I can imagine I get mad at it enough one day to throw it out the window and start over with something else that I know is stable.

Ha - and I have no idea what I did today, but it has been connected for 2+ hours and counting ...

Programmed the unit using the WIFI Attachment Setup Utility, which gave me an associated IP of 0.0.0.0 and then I decided what the heck, and hit the "update firmware" button which progressed farther through the process than normal and failed at "getting WPS data".

Plugged it in to my head unit - and yeah, its working.
