Who is using Comcast???
Who is using Comcast???
I know this may seem like the wrong place to put this thread, but it will make sense in a minute.
I switched from Bellsouth (or AT&T) DSL to Comcast Xfinity about a month a go and have had problems with my WiFi Module connecting to the internet since.
I've gotten it connected a couple of times, but it typically lasts 2-3 days and then I lose connectivity to the portal and the Android app inside my house or out of my network and just around anywhere.
What I've noticed is that when I lose connectivity the portal will show the correct Static IP address that Comcast has assigned to me (73.139.228.XXX), but when I start checking thing to see what the problem is the online IP checkers will show what I believe is the Iv6 IP address of 2601:582:c001:784f1:6a0c:xxXX:xxxX.
The RA only uses the Iv4 IP address and not the Iv6 address. I know this from speaking with Roberto when trying to setup my port forwarding about a month ago and the Comcast tech was asking for the Iv6 address of the RA to set it up. Roberto told me they don't use the Iv6 protocol.
So after that lengthy backstory my question has 2 parts to it.
1) Who has internet service with Comcast?
2) How do you deal or get around this issue?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Who is using Comcast???
i have comcast xfinity service and have for a couple months now. i just have the performance plus package. I provided my own cable modem (aris/motorola surfboard sb6121). I use my own router (asus router running ddwrt) and my wifi is a separate module (ubiquiti unifi ap pro). I run the dynamic dns that i posted a topic about. i do not have a static ip assigned to me by comcast...just your basic 25/5 mbps sevice.
i run my own owncloud server (dropbox equivalent only i control the server, not dropbox) and do not have any issues. i live in the central Illinois area (champaign area to be exact).
anything you want me to test or try or check on?

Re: Who is using Comcast???
Not sure.
I know it's an Aris modem with router and WiFi. I don't know the model.
I can't tell from inside the modem.
I'll need to look at it when I get home.
I didn't think it would be a static IP, but they told be it was and I've had the same address since I got it.

Yes. Renting/Leasing whatever you want call it.
It's an Arris TG862G/CT.
Product # TG02DH7862CT.
I also wasted several hours on the phone with level 2 tech support and got no help.

Re: Who is using Comcast???
It just started working.
Just out of nowhere.
I didn't do or change anything.
The last time it worked prior to 9:15pm 10/20 (now) was 5:14am 10/19.
We'll see how long it lasts.

Re: Who is using Comcast???
thats good that it is working now. could be something going on with the routers wifi or the wifi module of the ra. could be the location of the router. could be a variety of things (sorry for the vagueness). i just read the manual for your router and it seems pretty standard (although it can do a lot of stuff...wifi, ethernet, telephone). if it continues to act up, my suggestion would be to try to connect the ra wifi to s different wifi hotspot and test it out that way to try to isolate what part is failing.

The router is only 8' from the RA. Straight shot to each other.
No walls except the stand skin.

Re: Who is using Comcast???
It worked for maybe 2hrs and then stopped again.
The last time my phone connected was 9:15pm on the 20th.
My tablet connected at 9:37pm on the 20th and the portal last connected at 1:37am this morning 10/21.
I really don't understand this.
Some online ip checkers show the 73.139.228 address while other still show the Iv6 address as 2601:582:c001:784f:f4e5:6e67:xxxx:xxxx

Re: Who is using Comcast???
I've been using Comcast for like a year now and have never had any issue with my router.
Re: Who is using Comcast???
It was working fine from the 23rd to the 27th.
The last time the Portal or anything connected was 10/27/2015, 7:39:09 PM.
No rhymes or reason sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.

Re: Who is using Comcast???
Looking more closely at what is going on I don't think it's an issue with Comcast.
It doesn't connect in Home mode on the App or if I try to access the internal server or the r99 data.
Something is going on with the WiFi module.
This is very similar to an issue I was having when I was on AT&T, but that would last 2-3 days and then be fine or if I rebooted the head unit it would start working for a couple of days again.

I just rebooted the head unit and it works now.
I shouldn't have to re-boot the uit every 2-3 days ti have WiFi connectivity to the RA.

Re: Who is using Comcast???
You need to not worry about IPv6 what so ever. It has zero to due with your issues.
Are you able to ping the module when you are unable to access the portal?
You do not have a static IP with Comcast unless you pay for it. Its not very cheap so you would know if you had it. So what this means is your IP will change everynow and then.
See if you are able to ping the next time you are not able to access the portal.
Best solution:
Signup for a Dynamic DNS service or better yet buy a new router and replace the Comcast crap. Most of the new Asus routers has a Dynamic DNS service built in for free. Its a no brainer.

Re: Who is using Comcast???
If you look at my previous post.
I have no contact with the head unit internal or external when o can't access the portal.
I didn't think I have a static IP either, but the level 2 tech at Comcast said I did.
I even questioned him about it.
My IP address has not changed since August 19th when i switched to Comcast.
I know what a static IP is, I did tech support for BellSouth (AT&T) for 3 years before they became part of AT&T.
Before I got Comcast I was using the DDNS service that Roberto set up and incorporated into the latest libraries.

Re: Who is using Comcast???
Example: I reset the main unit yesterday and it has been fine except I lost the Android App connectivity this morning, but I still have connectivity with the portal and it still has the same IP address as it's has since I switched to Comcast.

It being the wifi module or comcast external IP?

Re: Who is using Comcast???
If your IP isnt changing it doesn't make sense that the android app isn't working. Wasn't the root cause that dynamic dns wasn't updating? I would expect the portal to work and get updates, I'm confused why things are breaking. The only thing i can thing i can think of is the ddns piece isn't getting triggered right until you bounce the head unit. Can you post or link to your code again?
Re: Who is using Comcast???
Oh and next time we need the ip of router, ip of wifi module, ip of your ddns name before and after. If you want, fee free to PM that info.
Re: Who is using Comcast???
Since Comcast says I have a static IP and I haven't seen the IP address change since mid August I removed the DNS address from the Android app and entered the IP address that I've had in the app.
The app started working again at about 5:15pm today.
The link to my code is in my sig, but here it is.

Re: Who is using Comcast???
Currently the Portal is working, but the Andriod app is not.
Lee the IP address the portal is showing is the 73.139.228.XXX. the same one I PM'ed you last night and the Andriod app is set to look at that IP address on the "Away Host"
I am able to ping the External IP address from my desktop at work.

Re: Who is using Comcast???
I have lost connectivity about 3 times since my last post.
Each time I hard reboot the head unit (disconnect the serial cable and reconnect it) the connectivity comes back for about a week.

Use Tera Term or putty and type $$$ after you connect at 57600 baud.
It will prompt with CMD>
Type enter and anything else and it will show the version.

You have to be connected with the Serial to TTL cable, right?
You can't do it wirelessly?

Yes. Or you would have to type really fast.
There is a timeout of 1 second and the TCP connection is dropped.
