Powerhead / Wavemakers

Post by binder »

I'm looking into new wavemakers and wanting something that works with my RA. I've been on the sidelines over the last couple years and an behind the times with what all current wavemakers on the market.

I'm looking at the Vortech mp10wQD or the maxspect xf230 gyre.
I would like some input from you guys on if the RA can work to control either of them or what ones I should be looking at.

We decided to discontinue the RF modules. :(
It is just not worth pursuing this if Ecotech doesn't want to cooperate.
The gyre works just fine with the gyre module from coralvue.

Awesome!
I just looked into this and in the description on the marinedepot page for the module it mentions reef angel specifically.
What additional cable would be needed to set it up? i already use my pwm ports for my leds (but that may change in the future....i will be upgrading my lights later this year).

You can make your own or you can cut and splice the dimming port connectors to them.
It is basically a stereo 3.5mm audio connector in one end and the dimming port connectors on the other end.
I think the AI cable we have in the webstore is even the same thing.

does it matter what wire is positive and negative?
inside my 3.5mm audio cable are a red and white wire. I would think that red might be positive and white negative.

I would guess that it might not make a difference but I want to ask.

The positive is the tip and negative is the usual ground used for sound. It is the one closest to the jacket. The middle ring is not used.

what would happen if I wired it up wrong? like if I got the ground wrong? would it just not work or would it damage something?
I wouldn't imagine it damaging anything but I figured I'd ask.

ok. thanks. i looked at things more closely and i cannot tell from the audio cable i bought and took apart. I am going to just get a 3.5 mm mono cable plug (only has tip and ring... :-) ) and wire it up with this. can't go wrong with this one. haha. besides, it will allow me to make whatever length of cable i need.

could i use a mono cable plug instead of stereo cable plug (like i mentioned) or would that not work? i would think it would since the plugs match up but i wanted to ask.
