What do you do when your testing code?

Post by lnevo »

So my Mac is in the basement, but my Reef Angel is upstairs... when I disconnect the head unit, everything shuts down. What do you guys do when your coding? Is there any way to create a module that keeps everything alive when you're working on your code? Otherwise I may need to find me a laptop :)

2 things.
1. write code and compile it on computer. ensure it compiles and then try to upload it to your controller.
2. buy second controller :-)

We need a virtual controller so i can see my screen designs...

As far as option 2...I like that idea, but there is no option for just a relay head...

Is it possible to use the RA+ upgrade board to keep the system running?

Anyone have a good price on an older RA head :)

I use a long USB extension cable :)
It has to be one of those active extensions though.
Technically, when the controller is being programmed, all ports retain the last state and the PWM module also keeps the last state. The only thing that goes down is the standard dimming channels.
So, almost everything should pretty much stay the same when being programmed if it is still connected to the main box.
It is only when you disconnect it from the box that everything shuts off.

Yeah, like i said my computer is in the basement and my wifes is in the bedroom...would be a pretty long extension...wonder if anyone has tried a wireless usb extender...

Edit: nevermind the wireless usb...i could get another controller at those prices!

Roberto, what kind of price would it be to have a spare head unit instead of the whole package?

will be great to have the virtual controller to test codes. i have extra head unit available. so when i am testing codes i plug 8x multi socket in ,those multi socket with small red LED on it so when the port is switched on i can see it and will know if the code is working.

The Virtual controller will be a great thing to have :)
