Reef Angel Libraries Update Utility
Reef Angel Libraries Update Utility
Hello Everyone,
This little application checks which version of libraries you currently have and also gives you the option to download the latest libraries.
http://www.reefangel.com/update
Works for both MacOSX and Windows.
Happy coding,

No probs, there's tons of good stuff squirreled away on these forums. Just gotta grab it up when you stumble across it and find a spot to put it.rimai wrote:Thanks for the suggestion.

I try to keep some of my "more important" things stickied at the top of the forums if I can. It's a feeble attempt to help everybody out.chase wrote:No probs, there's tons of good stuff squirreled away on these forums. Yeah, good idea. Since getting my controller up and running over the past 3-4 weeks I've definitely accumulated quite an amount of bookmarks covering various posts along with good tips here and there. I was planning on putting them together in the newbie forum as a kind of "Things I learned along the way" that weren't necessarily obvious or maybe confusing at first. Figured it would help people get their feet wet and scale back the 'omg wtf did i get myself into' factor, lol.binder wrote: I try to keep some of my "more important" things stickied at the top of the forums if I can. Re: Reef Angel Libraries Update Utility
That would be nice to have...
Can you write up something?
Can you write up something?

There has been a link to Chase's write up in the "where to start guide" from the first edition. I thought it was a very usefull artical from the view point of a nubie at that time.
Re: Reef Angel Libraries Update Utility
Quick Suggestion.
The Update Wizard seems like it is configured to look at the server and find the latest library version, display that and ask you to update... but it does not seem to be looking at your local config to determine if its really an update.... I.E. after updating and running the Wizard again, its asking if I want to install what I just installed. Its kinda easy to miss that the last digit changed and then you may fail to sequentially update to newest, or you might (as I did once) just re-install what you only moments before installed.
Would it be possible to just write a file somewhere local that indicates the last update installed and then compares to latest on server and then only if they are different asks you to update... else it just says... your up to date no need to do anything.
Not a big deal at all... but it would essentially guarantee that everyone is fully up to date (you just update until it tells you your updated to latest) and avoid redundant downloads and uncertainty.
It may be that a yet newer version exists that does this...

Re: Reef Angel Libraries Update Utility
This update utility has an end soon to be reached
I've got goodies under my sleeves
The new Arduino IDE that will be released in the next few days will actually have an auto-update feature.
It will check and compare versions automatically everytime you start the Arduino IDE.
It is actually going to be a global update utility, where it downloads the following:
RA libraries
All current and future Tools - Libraries version, Restore Preloaded and Wizard
Example Codes
Features auto-selection keyword file
Pretty cool, huh?
I had to compile my own version of the Arduino IDE and change some stuff around, but the end result will be awesome
