Random Date time change ?!

Post by astralmind »

Well that's a weird and scary one, I was sitting in my living room right now and just saw the light turning back on on my tank! No odd behavior except for the fact that I was way past light off time and they actually turned off as usual before suddently coming back on.

Had a look at my date and time and it showed up as 2043 5h45PM (real time is 2012 10h22 PM).

Any idea what happened there ? We are about to leave for a week outside of the country with no internet access and my mother will take care of the tank. Obviously, she has 0 knowledge of the RA and its logic. I can't afford to have that happen again.

As far as I know this is the first time this happens. It would make sense since the light did go off on the proper time (10 sharp) before turning back on with a messed up time. No power failure or even fluctuation.

That's what I thought. Really really odd. I haven't changed my code since I got the RA Optiboot board, everything had been working flawlessly. Let's hope it really was a one off.

If you remove power from RA for a few seconds and power it back up, does it have the correct time?

Just tested, solid 30 second power out and the time seems to be ok. Even weirder, I guess you were thinking of a dead cmos battery ?

Seperate topic altogether but the salinity probe appears to be totally dead. reads 60, all plugged in properly (tried plugging in and out everything multiple time).

Yeah, that's what I was thinking.
PM me for repair on the module.

Had a power outage yesterday for about 2.5 hours... when my unit came back up it was midnight on 1/1/2000. Just curious if this is expected or if it should have held the settings. It never had a problem when I unplugged to move it or upload code or anything...

Should've held the time.
Can you try removing power again to see if it looses it?

Battery looked OK inside but I didn't get to test it with a multimeter to see if it had any juice...but definitely loosing date/time every time controller resets. What kind of battery is it and I'll get a replacement?

I can't say for sure if your board had a replaceable battery or not. You will find out when you open it.
The new boards come with replaceable ones.
