Can't get rid of Simple Menu

The clever new features autogen keeps turning on Simple menu but I don't want simple menu.

How do I stop it from doing that?

There is the simple menu, which is the default.
The standard menu that requires the function posted a few posts back.
And you can create your own custom menu too
