Has anyone tried the Mean Well LDD series drivers on the RA?

Post by dadriance »

I'm hearing good things about the LDD drivers and they look like they should fit my project nicely. The thing that has me concerned is that the data sheet indicates that a " >2.5 ~ 6VDC" PWM signal is needed. I seem to recall that the PWM signal from my Reef Angel is 10v, no? Has anyone tried this driver yet?

Yes, 0-10VDC PWM output, but I can also make it 0-5VDC PWM if you need it :)

I had hoped to use the daylight channel of my current unit, can I make this change myself or is it a major undertaking?

You need to open the relay box and remove the booster.
If it is just one channel you need, you can use one of the ATO ports as output, but only one can output PWM signals.

I need 1 channel to start (and I am using the single ATO) but I'll need 3-4 somewhere down the road. Is it possible to get a PWM dimming expansion with half 5V and half 10V?
The other option is to re-think my drivers. I had planned to run 4 strings of 10 at 1000mA and 2 strings of 10 at 600mA. I could do 2 strings of 10 at 625mA on a LPF series and use 4 ELN's for the rest.

Yes, I can make the dimming module with 5V too :)

So how would one go about ordering a dimming module with 5v PWM output? (At the rate things are going, I may even finish the new fixture before my electricity is back on.)

Just buy it at the store and write down on the notes that you would like to have them at 5V

Expansion is ordered, Power came back on tonight, now I just have to finish the fixture. I need to figure out the cabling next, is a RJ-45 and CAT5 sufficient fir the PWM signal? The run will be around 5-8'.

Is the booster on the PWM expansion a daughter card? I am wondering if it can be ordered as a 10V and changed to 5V support by unplugging something or if desoldering is required.

Thanks,

Yes, you can desolder and create jumpers to have a 5V output.
Let me know if you are interested.

Rimai - a reply to an old post, but trying to figure out the cabling for PWM signal. Would it be ok to run 25 ft of RJ-45 or CAT5? My plan is to control LDD drives from your PWM expansion.

Yeah, the PWM signal should be fine at that distance.
