maybe i have been reading old posts but it seemed like most recommended buying the 7 and 10 calibration fluid with any RA purchase.

what is the optimal location of the probe to prevent bad readings? I don't plan on doing any diy housing and was just going to drop it in my sump... in my sump i run my skimmer pump, heaters, and 2 float switches from a JBJ ATO

It will work and you will get fairly accurate reading, though for more accurate, the calibration with real standards is necessary.
