First boot, screen resets and red status flashes

Post by sabo »

So I unboxed and started trying to set up my new toy today. PH probe had leaked and encrusted with salt, but as per a previous thread, I dont think that is an issue. Anyway, first boot and it shows time, temp ok, then the relays self check? then a few numbers that dont make sense, then relays self test again, and screen goes blank and red status light flashes. Now screen starts at top and slowly clears the dots, then red status again etc etc.

Right now waiting for a while with the plug out because it seems to have a hard reboot time? (residual power somewhere??) On subsequent times I pull the plug it doesnt seem to get the initial boot screen and the relays dont clack.

OK, now i have plugged it into my 110v step down and the relays are constantly clacking, Then back into 240v and still doing the same. Cant get to the main menu. I refilled the ph probe bottle with water, dunno if that has caused it. It doesn't appear to be doing the same thing twice :P Bloody computers ;)

OK, I cant seem to make sense of this at the moment. Scratching my head.

Hmm, starting to think this has a dodgy board or something. Sometimes it seems that moving the joystick to the left makes the relays stop cycling. Any ideas appreciated.
FWIW, all I have done is plug in the temp and PH probes and relay box like stated in the manual. Havent connected anything else to it yet. (was hoping to set up wifi, but didn't get that far)

That does not look correct.
Did you get RA or RA+?

Check all of your cable connections. I had the same thing happen and found I had a lose USB cord.

The only cord that was plugged into it was the one from relay box to controller. I hadnt gotten around to running the wizard yet, as the user guide said it should boot without it. I guess ill try running the wizard on it and see if it helps.
Oh, and its the RA+

Ok, if it is a RA+, disconnect the svga cable and use the USB power cable.
Does it boot correctly?

Is the usb power cable the three pin one? Where does it plug in? I cant recall reading anything about that one.

OK, that powered it up. On the screen is the four rows of numbers, the date, actinic ok, daylight ok and pushing the joystick down doesnt appear to do anything. Not getting any red status light or screen resettings now.

Do you have an irc channel?

Edit: ok, after another reboot, i just get the four lines of numbers and the date. Still cant access the menu. Should I try reflashing it?

Yes, try it.
I think we will need to replace that relay box if it doesn't boot the head unit.
It may be sending the incorrect voltage

OK, good news :D After flashing it, i get the main menu, and seeing as that decided to play ball, I tried the relay box and that is also behaving itself now. Happy days. I guess it didn't like whatever firmware was in it. Set up the wifi module no worries too, so now onto the portal and phone tablet apps! :)
