Something strange happening with head unit.
Something strange happening with head unit.
I was re-calibrating my Water level sensor last night, because it seemed like it was reading high, while doing so I noticed that the Salinity would jump from whatever it was at (34.5 or around there) to 28 or 12 or 6.
I also noticed that my Temp #3 probe was alternating between error and the room temp of about 79° about every second or so.
While looking at the portal I saw the salinity go from 48 (it's high I need to re-calibrate the probe, but couldn't last night because of what s going on with the head unit) to 0 and the room temp is at 0 now, but if refresh the page it goes to 77.9°.
What could be going on?

Re: Something strange happening with head unit.
Ok. This just started happening.
The unit is shutting down randomly.
It is not a power outage or anything with the outlet powering the tank.
The RA and all vital equipment is on a battery backup/surge protector, but as you can see from the video it is just turning off and then turning back on.
If it was power from the outlet then the battery backup would keep the tank running for about 20 min, but this goes out immediately.

Video is private. I have problems like that when cables are well connected. Svga usually

I just made it unlisted instead if private.
I'll check to SVGA cable.

The SVAG cable seems secure.
I've never taken it off since u set it up but it's still happening

Re: Something strange happening with head unit.
It seems the controller is still powered up. Can you confirm that?
I'd disconnect your probes and hub to start troubleshooting from bare bones and start adding one component at a time.

Re: Something strange happening with head unit.
I think the controller stays on.
I'll try isolatijg everything.

Yes the controller stays on. At least the green light does't go out.

Re: Something strange happening with head unit.
Ok.
I think I got it figured out.
A lot of strange thing all adding up,
It looks like the RA shutting on and off was due to a bad USB cable running to my Power Control Module.
I replaced it from one from one of my USB drives.
I do have 1 bad Temp prob. It no longer alternates, it's just off (error) all the time.
Somehow (maybe because of the power going on and off) my internal time on the RA got messed up so as I was trying to isolate the issue things were shutting off when they shouldn't be and ot turning on when they should.
IE: my daylights went out at 2:30pm when they are supposed to go out at 9pm.
The de-nitrification pump didn't turn on at 7pm.
Roberto I'll need an RMA for the temp probe.
I'll PM you.

Re: Something strange happening with head unit.
Thanks, but maybe I spoke to soon.
Since I wrote the the possible solution at 7:40 it has happened twice.
I don't really feel like getting into it again right now.
I'll address it tomorrow, but I know that the temp probe is

Re: Something strange happening with head unit.
Ok. I did more testing yesterday and it seems to be the dimming port module.
Roberto; the only thing I have on the dimming port module is the Lunar hub.
Should I remove the Lunar hub from the dimming port and see what happens?
1 think I haven't tried yet (i'll do it tonight) is plug the dimming port with Lunar Hub) directly into the relay and not going through the expansion hub.

Re: Something strange happening with head unit.
The expansion hub works fine with everything else attached to it.
I'll try isolating the dimming module when I get home.

Re: Something strange happening with head unit.
Tried the dimming module with the lunar hub and lights plugged directly into the relay and it works fine (still have it set up like that and am going to watch it again tonight).
I decided to try the expansion hub with just the dimming module with the lunar hub and lights alone to see if it is the expansion module or if it was the dimming module conflicting with some other module.
Well with nothing plugged into the expansion module except the dimming module with the lunar hub and lights, the head unit power cycled quickly.
So it is the expansion module that seems to be the problem.

Re: Something strange happening with head unit.
Well it's gone 2 nights with the dimming module and lunar hub plugged directly into the relay (bypassing the expansion hub) and all has been fine.
It seems to be the expansion hub.
I don't understand when the expansion hub work with everything else, except the dimming module and lunar hub plugged in.
I guess I'll PM Roberto for an RMA.

Re: Something strange happening with head unit.
Well I've been some testing behind the scenes with Roberto because the expansion hub, it wasn't the head unit it doesn't seem to be the Salinity module.
We are looking at the Water Level module.
I have the WL module unplugged, but I was using the sound of the ATO pump kicking in to let me know when the WL dropped below a certain percentage, because when it has a problem it will drop to 0.
With that unplugged I need another way to check it so I want to use the salinity.
When the system has problems the Salinity will drop to 6.
So Roberto gave me some code that will turn on port 8 when the salinity is <10.
I loaded it and it is on all the time even though the salinity is at 39.
It is in the void loop() section.
The code he gave me is...
Any other suggestions?
Thanks.
