Connection issue with Head Unit and Comm Cable

Post by timmcq »

Roberto,

Today, I noticed that my first relay box was not working. As I looked into this, I unplugged and disconnected the head unit. As I plugged things back in, the lights flickered but stayed off. As i worked with it, there is definitely an issue between the head unit and the communication cable.

I read an earlier post (2011) where you suggested switching the cable sides between the head unit and relay box to see if the problem moved or stayed. It stayed at the head unit.

As I move the comm cable, up & down, left & right, things flicker. I now have the cable seated very loosely, with the right side a bit tighter and things seem to work. If I plug the cable in fully, the unit will not work.

What do you suggest I do next?

Thanks!

I think you ought to get a new cable if that one seems to be problematic.

Is this a standard cable?

Yeah. Svga cable. Just make sure that you get one with all wires inside.
Some companies cut costs by shorting some wire or not even having them.
We also have in the webstore.

New cable, same results. I am assuming that the board's connection is the issue. Your thoughts?

If it is in the board, you will need to send it back for me to repair/replace.
PM for RMA number.

Roberto,

I just connected the head unit with the new board that you installed. The scroll button sticks and menus continue to scroll. For example, I go to change the date and time and it just keeps scrolling fast. This never happened.

What can I do?

Could it be that I screwed the enclosure too tight and it is catching it now? Or I didn't press the thumb joystick enough?
I'm assuming that if you bring the joystick back with your hand, it returns to the original position, right?

No, not screwed too tight. I removed front cover and worked joystick around without cover. It sticks continuously in the UP position only, and yes I can pull it down to stop it. Can I remove the joystick and reseat it? - or shouldn't I even try?

Otherwise, things work just fine.

If it is sticking just mechanically, you can use lithium lube to make it more slippery or some sort of grease that is thick.
You can easily pull out the black cap.
