Hi all!
I've *finally* got my reef angel hooked up to my new 4x2x2 tank - it's only taken like a year to get the RA set up! doing well (short story: got diagnosed with a benign brain tumour. had brain surgery. got better. plumbed tank. installed RA.)
So, my question for anyone who might know is this: How loud should the ATO pump be? I've rigged it up, the resevoir is outside and the pump is currently sitting under my cabinet... it's SUPER loud when it tops the tank off (sounds a bit like a truck grinding in first gear)...
(i'm secretly hoping i've done something wrong in setting it up...)
ATO Pump - Noise level
Re: ATO Pump - Noise level
On my tunze osmolater, if I don't turn the pump upside down and shake any air out the pump it does that too. Maybe check that?
Believe it or not.... I can ask even stupider questions than this one.
Re: ATO Pump - Noise level
is the osomolator a peristaltic pump?
Re: ATO Pump - Noise level
No, it's a small vertical pump with an impeller.
I just assumed yours was to....oops.
On my doser pumps, you need to make sure that the heads are clicked onto the body properly or they make a grinding noise. Maybe check that out?

Re: ATO Pump - Noise level
I am going to dismantle it tonight and check that it's assembled cleanly. I am also thinking of putting some Vaseline on the moving parts to see if that helps at all.

Re: ATO Pump - Noise level
congrats on beating brain cancer. I'm sure you can beat this too
Re: ATO Pump - Noise level
Thanks lee!
not actually cancer. a rare, congenital tumour that had ruptured in my right frontal lobe. Either way: kicked its ass...
The ATO pump, on the other hand, I managed to break (accidentally popped the wires out of the motor assembly - which appears to be sealed closed).
