RA gone crazy. Please help

Post by ecamFT »

Hey @rimai.

Please help. Since I've installed the cloud. My reef angel has done this 2x

It will start flashing the red light (that show up when a timeout occur). And at this point it turns on all the relays. Especially the heat !!!!!

So I found my tank at 86 degrees at 7am this morning with all the lights on and heaters on with the ato overheat light on too. When I over rode the heat clear it then started flashing. Just like the first time.

This is the second time. Please help this can nuke my tank

That's a bus lock.
It has nothing to do with the cloud attachment.
What expansion modules do you have?

I also here random clicking from the relays. When nothing is supposed to be turning on and off. Not sure if this is related.

it is something in the expansion bus. Not in the attachment port.

You need to find out what module is causing the issue. If it is not a module, it could be the head unit. The expansion bus starts in the head unit, travels through the svga cable, into the relay box and out in the USB connector where you normally connect the expansion modules. If you have corrosion anywhere, it could affect the bus signal.

This happens intermittently. How do I make it happen ?

If not possible. What steps do I need to take to isolate when it does happen again ?

Should I un plug each relay one by one. I hope the head unit is not going. I just replaced the last one.

When it happens again, disconnect one module at a time until the bus lock is cleared. Or unplug all expansion modules and connected t one at a time and watch to see if it happens.

Okay. Sure it happened again. I unplugged each one and the flashing light never shut off until I took off the power to the head unit.

Ph expansion
Salinity
2 relay expansion.

What's next ?

I'd do the other way around, because the bus lock sometimes doesn't clear when you remove the offending equipment.
If you get the bus lock with just the relay box, it is for isolated to just the head unit/svga/relay box combo somewhere.
I'd also look for water damage.

I don't see any corrosion around any of the modules. and ive removed the WIFI, salinity and Bluetooth. but just got the bus lock again . it happens every few weeks. so it must be going bad slowly. However, I cannot run my tank with the remaining expansion kits.... Relay, Expansion and PH Expansion. What can i do now to isolate the problem without removing these. The bus lock is causing my heaters to stay on and my calcium reactor to run all night till i realize the bus lock... all dangerous situations. Any help would be great. I can upload videos to you if you would like (tell me how) so you can eyeball the modules and confirm no water damage/corrosion.

I dont have an answer to your issue, but make sure the thermostat on your heater is set so it wont go that high...second set an alert on the portal so you know when it happens as soon as possible.

Good Call... Lee.. Hopefully it will still send out alerts in that state. I guess i can use my PH expansion probe since it always goes down to 6.4 whenever this happens....

Thanks

Brainstorming here.... but just hit me... these are the key events that happens everytime

whenever this happens the Actinincs are always on, heaters are on (at least two)... (gotta confirm the other one when this happens again) and the CO2 reg is going nuts..... and salinty drops to 6.0

All of these are connected to my 2nd relay (relay expansion)

Is this enough to isolate the relay expansion as the culprit?

You can directly set an alert for buslock flag.
