Portal access closing browser from outside network

I am trying to access my portal page from outside my network for the first time, and when I click 'portal' it starts to load and then my browser closes. any thoughts?

I think it runs on Java. You may want to try a newer version of java.

Also what browser are you using? Could you try another?

browser issue, I am at the office and had limited ability to 'change things' but contacted IT so we got firefox on and it works
