Com Port
Roberto, I just replaced my laptop where I had my reef angel software connected. The old laptop was running Vista. The new one is Windows 7. I downloaded the installer and it was unable to find any ports. I opened Arduino and went to the tools menu but the serial ports are greyed out. Any ideas?
Re: Com Port
Did you plug the cable in the new computer?
Was the driver installed correctly?
If you go Control Panel->System->Device Manager
And expand Ports (COM & LPT), do you see USB Serial Port (COMX)?
Do you have any device with yellow exclamation mark?

Re: Com Port
I looked under the device manager and no com ports were listed. I have universal serial bus controllers, system devices, human interface devices and others that are self explanatory

Is the USB cable plugged in on the new computer?

Re: Com Port
The USB cable was not connected when the installer said to make sure it was not. The installer then said to connect the USB cable and proceed, which I did. The next screen showed there were no ports available. The USB cable was connected to both the laptop and the controller. I verified the connection at the controller (black wire on the right side and plugged in to the far right)
Re: Com Port
If windows does not even recognize the cable, it is not installed correctly.
Try updating the driver:

Re: Com Port
Windows recognizes when the cable is plugged in to the computer. I get a pop up stating a new device has been plugged in
Re: Com Port
If it says a new device is plugged in, it indicates that the drivers were definitely not installed properly.
It should say nothing and should show the device in your device manager window.

Re: Com Port
Just to clarify, when you said it is not installed correctly, are you referring to the driver? If so do I install the driver from the link you provided or start the installation with the installer all over again?
Re: Com Port
Try the driver that I linked above.
Those are just the drivers for the cable.
The installer usually installs the drivers automatically, but it seems something went wrong because the cable is not setup properly.
