I have a dumb temperature question:

When it (the wizard or portal) asks when to turn on the heat -
Do I put 50? so anything above 50 should be heated util it reaches the turn off temp?

No, put the lowest temp you want your tank to be.

More clarification please:
I want my temp between 78.5 and 80.5
My thermometer has a digital temp setting.
RA has its own settings.
What should I set and where?

On the heater, set it a little above what you want your max temp to be. I keep my tank at 78, so my heater is set to 80. Depending on the accuracy of the heater, you may need to adjust the heater max temp to keep the heater on till the Reef Angel turns it off.

On the Reef Angel, I usually have a difference of .6 degrees between the on and off temp settings. Anything less and the relay sometimes will bounce on and off during a heating cycle.

For your preferred temp, set the heater to enough above 80.5 that the Reef Angel cycles it off before the heater cycles itself off, I would guess about 82. Then set the Reef Angel to turn heat on at 78.5 and off at 80.5. During a heat cycle, watch the heater to make sure it stays on till the RA cycles it off. If it doesn't stay on, turn the heater up a bit.

For your heater function you'll use 78.5 and 80.5 as the arguments. You'll want your heater set to at least 80.5

He's some findings - my digitally controlled Aqua - Via 300w heater did not work in this configuration because the temp settings would reset whenever the unit would power off! Being the RA is controlling the temp - the heater would reset to 79 instead of 81 as I want it.

Solution - I had a Finnex digitally controller 300w that seems to retain the settings at power off.

Ouch! Thats annoying...

Why would anyone want a heater that loses its config when you lose power...wtf.

For controllers such as RA, I am thinking analog heaters are best.
