can't install communication drivers

Post by nickels »

I installed my custom code about 6 months ago, and everything has been running fine. I went to update my code and change some of the setting and everything went wrong. I tried to re-install everything. I uninstalled all software, and then re-installed the software. I get stuck after the install setup. First I install the drivers with out the USB connection, that went fine. Next I plug in just the USB side of the TTl-USB cable, and I wait for window 7, to say driver is installed and ready, that never happened. I never get past that step. I waited upto 2 hours. If I just hit next without waiting for windows to install driver, then i cant upload the code. I am not sure of the problem, but i spent so much time yesterday trying to get past the install process. I think it could be the TTl-USB wire, but im not sure. Please help.

I think you need the RA plugged in as well. I don't use Windows but I don't think the cable is recognized on its own.

I tried to plug in the RA to the USB-TTL cable as well. For the 2nd set of driver installations. Windows never said drive ready to install.

Sorry you are having issues. This is why I don't run Windows, but we have some pros here who I'm sure will chime in.

The controller does not need to be plugged in for the computer to recognize the cable. It automatically detects it and installs it. It sounds like there is an issue with the driver (yes, I know...stating the obvious).

Plug the cable into the computer.

You should open up the Device Manager and make sure that there are no icons with the little yellow exclamation point on them. The device is listed under the Universal Serial Bus controllers. It's listed as a USB Serial Converter. The manufacturer is FTDI.
If that's got a yellow exclamation point next to it, you can either try to update the drivers OR (my best recommendation) you can uninstall it completely. I would suggest uninstalling it. Unplugging it from the computer. Then run through the installation process again.

Give this a try first and see how you get along.
