Can not figure out intial set up
Can not figure out intial set up
I tried to upload the code for Initial memory, plugged in usb to computer and 5 prong to RA. This error message occurred. See initial error pic.
I also get an error when I try to do a test code for the Wifi attachment. See pic 2.
What do these errors mean and how the hell do I download code. I'm lost

Re: Can not figure out intial set up
Ok. so make sure you have selected "Reef Angel w/ optiboot".
Do you have any other serial port listed on Tools->Serial Port?

Roberto.
Re: Can not figure out intial set up
I had it set on "RA w/ optiboot" and the only serial port listed is COM3.
Re: Can not figure out intial set up
Does the controller reboot a few seconds after you click upload?
Roberto.
Re: Can not figure out intial set up
This is where I get: I've set it up, and got the IP address.
1. Start your Arduino software
(DONE)
2. Open the wifi test setup code by going to menu File->Sketchbook->Example Codes and selecting WifiTestCode
(DONE)
3. Upload the code to your Reef Angel Controller.
(NOW DO I CONNECT THE WIFI TO USB TO COMPUTER? OR LEAVE THE WIFI ATTACHED TO RA? I'VE DONE BOTH, AND BOTH GET ERROR)
4. After uploading the code, disconnect the USB-TTL converter cable and connect your wifi attachment. For more information on how to connect the wifi attachment, please refer to “Connecting your Reef Angel Wifi attachment to the Head Unit” in this manual

Re: Can not figure out intial set up
This has been a terrible experience so far and I travel Monday thru Friday, so if I can't get this thing working today I may have to return it and buy a different product.
Re: Can not figure out intial set up
I think you are jumping ahead of horses.
Work on the controller first before you move on to wifi.
You must be able to upload the InitialInternalMemory code.
It's the first step.
Make sure the black wire is to the right, just like the photo on the manual shows.
Just like any other Arduino controller, the Reef Angel needs to reboot to activate the bootloader.
Is your controller rebooting a few seconds after you hit upload?

Re: Can not figure out intial set up
When I try and upload the initialinternalMemory code it takes about 30sec to compile, then the status light on the right rapidly blinks red and then I get the error uploading message.
I have it on RA w/optiboot.

Re: Can not figure out intial set up
Just wanted to update this thread. The reason I was getting numerous error messages while uploading code was that I received a bad controller and needed to be sent a new one. Roberto did a great job of following up with me and trying to help. A new chip was overnighted and tonight I was able to set everything up no problems. Thanks RA! Great customer service.
