Arduino Uno & Arduino 2560

Post by byee »

I've got an Arduino Uno & Arduino 2560 from playing with the Hydra and Jarduino code.

I'm interested in trying the RA platform. Before committing $200, I'd like to try the code on either my Arduino Uno or Arduino 2560.

I realize I'll need to buy the Nokia screen with joystick.

Has anyone tried building their own RA using you're own Arduino Uno or Arduino 2560?

If the code works out, I'll invest in the RA.

Thanks you!

I'm also interested to hear others experience of this, since I'm planning to go that path myself... If you get the Nokia screen you're probably fine... I'm trying to do it even without that screen, since I want a better screen.

You will definitely want to go with the 2560.
You only need the screen and joystick if you want to see stuff in it.
Otherwise, you can take advantage of the internal web server.

Arduino Uno & Arduino 2560

Roberto,

I found this on the Adafruit site - adafruit.com/products/802

Will this shield work with the RA sketches?

I also have an ethernet shield available. Does the RA code only support a specific ethernet chipset?

Thanks in advance!!

The driver used is not in the RA libraries.
You may be able to adapt the code to use that driver though.

Just to confirm, I'll need to adapt the Ethernet shield to the RA.

Does the RA sketches support the Nokia LCD joystick shield?

Thx

Not getting it.
Are you trying to use mega2560 or RA?
You can't connect shields to RA.

The RA+ is at a very good price point once you do the cost analysis and consider how much your time is worth.

Have you priced everything out? I have and you'll spend about as much and not have a nice polished end result by piecing everything together.

You should do a cost analysis of all the pieces yourself:

RA Mainboard components:
Mega 2560
nokia lcd breakout board
joystick breakout board
atlas scientific pH stamp
pH probe
3 temp probes
2 float switches
components to do analog dimming if you need that
various sockets, connectors, leds, and wiring
project box

Relay box components:
8 port i2c expander board
8 port relay board
8 AC sockets
various sockets, connectors, leds, and wiring
project box

I'm trying to connect to my existing Arduino mega2560 so I can 'mimick' the RA to see if its something I'd like to move forward with.

KRavEN,

I fully understand the RA is at a great price point. Like with ALL controllers, once you add up the options.....it does get more expensive.

I've 3 Arduino's in my possession of which 2 are mega2560 and 1 is just the uno. I also have the ethernet shield as well as the Atlas pH stamp. The only thing I don't have is the joystick shield or the Nokia LCD shield.

Since I already own various Arduino PLC's and most of the shields, I just want to try out the RA sketches before committing to the hardware.

The Opensource aspect of the RA works very well and is the main factor that made me choose RA over the others... Best aquarium investment to date....
