Do you have standard RA or RA+?
Double check your serial port.

Communication error you're getting indicates that the RA isn't responding to the serial commands telling it to reset and go into programming mode. Most likely the problem is with the connection between the computer and the RA via the USB TTL cable if the RA is working normally when connected to the relay.

Did the serial port number change on the computer? Does the RA power properly when only the USB TTL cable is attached? Is the correct serial port and RA type selected in the arduino IDE?

Can you try holding the reset button on the RA, hit program in the IDE, and release the reset button as soon as you see "Rebooting Reef Angel Controller"? Sometimes this is needed if you get bad code on the controller causing it to spit a lot of output to the serial or it's in a reboot loop.

If none of that works and you have a USBAsp you can hook that to the ICSP header on the RA. Then set the programmer in the arduino IDE to USBAsp and select program bootloader in the arduino IDE. This will reprogram the bootloader and get the RA back to a un-programmed state bypassing the serial port connection as a possible problem. Once it's in this state then try to program as normal through the serial port and it should work.

I don't have much experience with apple but it sounds like a problem with the driver for the USB TTL cable.

what port do you have selected? if you have the wrong port chosen on your mac, it won't work and you can get similar errors that you are receiving.
please check the port and post back what port you are using.

Your cable USB cable is not listed.
Are you sure that you have installed the drivers according to the manual instructions?

odd question but im going to ask the obvious. is the usb cable plugged into your mac before you launch arduino? if it is not, when arduino launches the port is not found and no ports are selected and it does not automatically select it when the cable is plugged in.
i know that was a silly question for me to ask but i wanted to ask it anyways just to make sure we were not overlooking the obvious.

This is the step that installs the drivers in your MacOSX.
You will also need to install the USB TTL cable drivers. Double-click the file FTDIUSBSerialDriver_10_4_10_5_10_6 and follow the instructions on each step. A restart of your computer will be necessary to finish the driver installation.
You are positively sure that you did this, correct?
Can you check if your Mac has any peripherals without drivers?
Did you try another USB port?

@binder yes it was plugged before.... i am using mac OS X 10.9.4

@rimai i positively did that but i never restart my computer so might that be a problem ? what i ll do is today once free delete all the old data of the software and restart the computer again install it restart than connect to RA and than start Audrino

previously i use to work the same way but never had any issues :?: :!:

Could it be that the USB cable got damaged?
Can you check for any stripped wire?

nope thats not a problem if the cable is damaged than i would not be able to connect it via another computer....

Ahh, so you can upload from another computer... I may have missed that.
That is definitely a driver not installed correctly then.
Does your OS recognize the cable when plugged?

ll chi it later for that

but roberto one serious problem
my relay stopped working :( it was in front of me that it stopped and i had a spare relay so that i could change it immidiately else my tank would have gone without lights/chiller/pump/skimmer every thing means everything for 2 days...

so what found be the possible reason of relay not working. i am really having a bad day :(

Are you talking about the entire box or a single port?

Re: getting error

Posted: Sat Jul 26, 2014 11:02 am
by jack
Yes sir the entire box not working
But the controller in connection to that working

So i had this extra relay expansion that i had bought but havent used it
Quickly took it out an joined it
And to my luck its working

So what could have gone wrong ??

Thanks

Not so sure. Did the breaker pop?
Are you sure it was not the cable that got loose?
If not any of those, PM to send it back and I'll take a look at it?
