Does anybody have a Motorola SBG6580 router. I'm trying to set up port forwarding but not quit getting it.

I don't have one, but I did find the manual online. You can download it here.
http://arris.force.com/consumers/articl ... User-Guide
The first step is to set a static IP for your Reef Angel. That's on pages 43-44. It's under the "Basic" configuration tab.
When you see the screen like on page 44, you should see an entry at the bottom under "Client List" for "ReefAngelWiFi". Copy that information to the section under "Reserve IP Address" and hit "Apply". Write down the IP address. You'll need it again in a minute.
This insures that your router will always assign this internal IP to your WiFi adapter. This is important.
Next, follow the instructions here.
http://portforward.com/english/routers/ ... tguide.htm
You will use the IP address you reserved above. The start and end ports are 2000.
That should do it.

Ok I did all that. I had to create a new IPv4. The only thing is it asks for internal and external IP address with start port and end port. I only put in the info for the internal IP address, is this correct? The portal is still saying unreachable address.

Nevermind! I forgot to hit enable when I created it. Its working now. I have tried this before and I was always very confused, but you made it much easier. Thank you!

When I try to access my controller on another network using the portal it updates the values but I can't toggle any ports. If I use the controller I get a timeout error. Does this mean my port is still not open?

Oh, and under "protocol" on your forwarding screen make sure you have "both" selected.

Ok I didn't have both selected, so I changed that. I checked port 2000 and it says its open on the IP address of the reef angel. I still can't toggle ports on the android app and like before, if i switch to controller I get error 15. I'm I suppose to put something in the external IP address and port? I only filled out the info for the internal IP address.

Does the web portal work?
What address are you using on the Android app? If it starts with 192 it won't work outside your home network.

The web portal works fine. I'm using the address that it shows in the web portal. Is this the wrong one?

No, that should be correct.
Which Android app are you using?

Reef Angel Status.

OK, lets start at the beginning. Leave Reef Angel Status set to "Controller". Set the "Home" profile to your 192 IP address, with the port as 2000. Set the "Away" profile to the IP the portal gives you and the port as 2000. Do a refresh under each profile and tell me what happens (assuming you're home on your home WiFi).

I got an error 14 when I refreshed on the home profile and when I was in the away profile it refreshed normally.

What's error 14? Is it consistent?

It says unknown host. Then it gives me the 192 IP address. Yes, every time I hit refresh while in the home profile, it does it.

Yes.

Doesn't make any sense. The 192 address is the same one you have set to ReefAngelWifi in your router?

Just to make sure, when you asked me to put my 192 IP address, you were asking for my router's IP address?

I checked my router and I put in the IP address that I reserved for the RA wifi.

Try rebooting your router. Other than that I have no idea. Maybe I'm missing something fundamental.
Does the "Away" profile work as expected?

If I set the device to controller and I'm in the away profile, it refreshes fine and I can toggle things off and on. If I set the device to portal and I'm in the away profile I can refresh it just fine but I can't toggle anything.

That's to be expected. Leave it on controller. I have no clue on the 192 address. Maybe someone else can chime in.
You need to set up the DDNS service. This is so if your cable company changes your external IP address the app can still find your RA. See this thread.
http://forum.reefangel.com/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=4754
You would use this address in place of the one the portal is reporting. I.e., instead of the portal address you will use ismaclst-whatever.myreefangel.com in the "Away" profile in the app (or "Home", if you prefer).
