Temp probe not reading

I just got a new temp probe when I plugged it in and pulled up the app it's still showing 0.0 I shouldn't have do anything with coding to get a reading do I?

I just read Dan Keatings book "Keating on Kings" and so much is dependent on water temp. Trying to think of a good way to get under water temperature reading without spending 500. Anyone have ideas that have worked for them in the past. I was thinking of attaching a thermometer to the ball. any other ideas out there?
