Power control module and water level expansion questions

Post by SouthernReefer »

Hey all. Can someone using the power control module and or the water level expansion modules show me their setups? Thinking I'll add both.

At least power expansion hoping to run some DC fans in my upcoming canopy. Also what fans are everyone using that are pretty silent?

what did you want to see with the setup?
I've got a multi water level unit but only using 1 channel to monitor my water reservoir.

That also works for ato too right? I'm planning to use the floats, but thinking down the road, might hack my skimmer to use one float as a kill on that and move up to the water level unit.

You can monitor any water level with it. Ie, volume of dosing containers, ato reservoir.

I think someone has done their entire ato handling with it instead of a float switch. however, i don't recall how easy/hard it was to implement.

Well that just gave me a new look at the 4 pack module... I bet I could do, ato, ato resivoir, all 3 dosing containers, and maybe even skimmer skimmer level if I bought 2....

I don't think you can use 2 of the multi level water level modules together. I know you can use the single and multi level together.
if it's possible to use 2 multi modules, there would need to be some library modifications. Roberto would have to chime in on this because I do not know.

I meant to say 2 multi channel is not possible. A single channel and a multi channel is possible

Good to know! Next question. How would I power some PC fans off the 12 volt module to cool my canopy? What fans do I need to buy, and do I need to build my own wiring harness?

I used some blowers before. You will need to use one of the ports of the relay box to power them.

So I can't use the pwm or 12 volt module to wore up some PC case fans?

You can use PWM to control the speed, but power would need to come from a dedicated power supply. Too much current.

Well that's perfect knowledge! I'll order a second relay box then. I found some good USB ones that come with the USB wall wart that will work. In out of outlets so this will give me a bit more room for expansion down the road. Once the cash is available I'll order a box, and a expansion hub then.
