Random LED death
Random LED death
For about a month now, I have had LEDs randomly die out. I am using LDD drivers 1000hw to be specific. It is always a different LED, when I test them all I find the bad LED, and I swap it out and its fine for an hour or a day. Then randomly all the Royal Blues are out. I check it and sure enough one is dead, I swap it out and its working again. It has never been the same one twice though. I have repeated this process 10 times... Does anyone have any ideas on what I could troubleshoot or could be the problem?
Re: Random LED death
What current are you running them?
Do you have adequate dissipation?
Are they from a reputable supplier?

Re: Random LED death
1 amp and they are designed for 1.3 amps.
Adequate dissipation... I think so My Cool White XT-E are fine
RapidLED is the supplier.

Re: Random LED death
I would reduce to 750mA if possible and see if things improve.
I think the issue is heat dissipation.

Re: Random LED death
OH yes heat dissipation is fine. I measure only 100 F on the heat sink
Re: Random LED death
I keep my heat sink at 80 Never let it go higher.
I run 40 leds on a small 6x9 heatsink from rapid. I run two fans on it. stays nice and cool.
poor connection from the back of the led to the heatsink can cause failures to. all they need is a small dab of the artic silver

Re: Random LED death
I actually have it stable. The heatsink itself gets up to 127 degrees (Probe has direct contact to heat sink) the air blown off the heat sink is 90 degrees. In the end, it was a bad LED that had a bad joint
Re: Random LED death
How many LED's do you have on one heat sink?
I'm running 60 LED's on two 6"x20" heatsinks from RapidLED. I run my blue channels at 1.2 amps and my whites at .7 amps. I run my heatsinks without fans and they stay cool to the touch...

Re: Random LED death
I have the RedSea max retro fit kit... I think the heat sink is about 6 by 12 with 27 LEDs on it
