Worked! Thanks for the suggestion. I pulled the dongle, rebooted, made sure no bluetooth was installed, then inserted the dongle and re-connected and it works now. I uploaded the code with DDNS enabled. I also repositioned the module a bit, but I don't know if that helped or not. It's in my basement and my computer is upstairs. Between the last time I reprogrammed and now I have drywalled the ceiling of my basement between the computer and the attachment which may drop the signal strength too.cosmith71 wrote:Delete the driver, reboot, and then try.
Bluetooth Attachment
Re: Bluetooth Attachment
Re: Bluetooth Attachment
Could be. Poor signal strength does all kinds of funny things to these.
Re: Bluetooth Attachment
Hah, worked once, uploaded code. Made a small change, and after that the arduino client reports that the com port is gone. Deleting and adding this time doesn't do it an now I can't even get the com ports to come back. I bet it's a range thing. Hmm.
Re: Bluetooth Attachment
I used a USB extension cable to move my bluetooth dongle closer to the aquarium and farther away from my computer. It's much more consistent now.

Colin, I have one of those that I used to run with my Apex feeder. It's even still run from the controller position upstairs to the tank right by my computer. How do you use it with your bluetooth connector?cosmith71 wrote:I used a USB extension cable to move my bluetooth dongle closer to the aquarium and farther away from my computer. Edit: Duh, I get it. You put the bluetooth dongle at the end of the extension with the USB end attached to your computer, not the bluetooth attachment from the RA somehow nearer the computer.

Re: Bluetooth Attachment
Suggestion works. I had a 10 foot extension cable that added just enough signal to make it pretty reliable. Thanks.
Re: Bluetooth Attachment
Glad you figured it out.
Re: Bluetooth Attachment
How much and where can I get 1?

Re: Bluetooth Attachment
Just installed my Bluetooth. Its so convenient. I am glad I read the first part of this post about replacing the file.
This is perfect for someone like me who is learning the program and wants to try multiple things.

Re: Bluetooth Attachment
What kind of range are those of you with this module getting from it? I have an iMac sitting about 9 feet from the Bluetooth module, and while it can occasionally connect, and even succeeded in uploading code once, it fails to connect or complete the upload about 90% of the time. If I sit next to the bluetooth module with my laptop, I get better results, but it sure would be nice to use the computer in my home office to update the code for the aquarium in my home office. :-/
Is there any way to implement an external antenna for the bluetooth module, like some have done for the WiFi?

Re: Bluetooth Attachment
Mine is probably about 10' away, through two walls and the aquarium stand. Try moving the BT module away from the other electrical equipment and away from the WiFi adapter to reduce interference.
Re: Bluetooth Attachment
Maybe it is the radio on your computer.
Try using an external dongle or even one of those with external antenna.

Re: Bluetooth Attachment
Am I cursed somehow? I can sit my laptop two inches from the bluetooth module, and when I attempt to upload code from Arduino over the bluetooth connection, the light on the bluetooth module turns blue, the reef angel clicks loudly as it reboots, the blue light goes out, and the upload fails with the notice
It's only worked once, and I've had no luck since, despite removing the bluetooth device and re-pairing it, restarting Arduino, changing the serial port to something else and back, etc.
When it is connected to my Mac, I can check the RSSI. For the iMac, which is 9 feet away, it's around -60 dB. For the Macbook sitting two inches away, it's about -45 dB.
Code: Select all
avrdude: ser_open(): can't open device "/dev/tty.RN-IAP-D497-RN-iAP": Resource busy

Re: Bluetooth Attachment
Im using OSX platforms - I don't think the referenced .dll file is present outside of the Windows IDE.
Re: Bluetooth Attachment
I think it's still part of it but I could be wrong. I have the bluetooth working on my windows laptop, not my mac..
Re: Bluetooth Attachment
Joshlawless;
Did you ever get the Bluetooth module set up on OSX?
I just switched from PC to MAC and am getting ready to set up the RA on El Capitan.

Re: Bluetooth Attachment
I have this on both of my RA's now, works great!
Re: Bluetooth Attachment
I had no problem getting it set up on my iMac.
I actually paired it long before I reinstalled the RA software and when I finally got the RA software going the Bluetooth worked fine.

Re: Bluetooth Attachment
Just got this and let me say this thing is awesome! I absolutely love not having to disconnect the RA to upload code. I'm always a little concerned at constant plugging/unplugging equipment (at least with small electronics). Especially after the usb-ttl gave my PC BSOD (edit: wanted to add this was specific to my PC, nothing to do with the RA), but the BT works perfect.
My PC (win 7, 64bit) did not tell me which port was incoming/outgoing, just listed com 6 and 7 being new. At first I tried 6 and it acted like it was going to load and the RA program just froze. I killed it with task manager after waiting a while and tried com 7, everything went smooth as butter. It does take a few seconds longer than if I had the usb-ttl cable but I don't have to touch anything to upload, so really time saved.
I'm about 12' away, up 1 floor.

Re: Bluetooth Attachment
How do I order one since I don't see it in the store
Re: Bluetooth Attachment
Hello, I would like to purchase such bluetooth attachement in order to upload code without cablesrimai wrote:I sent you a pm.
Re: Bluetooth Attachment
From what I understand with the new RA* you don’t need the Blue Tooth adapter.Armetas wrote:Hello, I would like to purchase such bluetooth attachement in order to upload code without cablesrimai wrote:I sent you a pm.
The RA* has a web or cloud interface that uploads the code.
If you are not planning on upgrading to the RA^ then you will need it.
It’s great I’ve had one since he released it.
