i just tested the hostname from my computer and my isp dns servers do not have an ip for it yet. so the hostname won't work until the dns servers have the ip address.

i don't know anything about your network setup, BUT if you have a 192.168.1.X setup range, you shouldn't be able to access 192.168.2.X because they are on different networks.

does the wifi adapter also have a dhcp server running? I installed my wifi using the utility, all went well, flashing green, no blue; until I was reviewing at the end and noticed it hadn't grabbed an ip address from my router, said dhcp=on etc.

Looked to see if I could turn it off easily, found the stuff about terra-term but even that didn't clearly state how to do it.

I run dhcp on my linksys router and don't want RA to also do that. Pls help.

No... DHCP=On means DHCP client and not server. It means that it is picking up ip address from DHCP server on your router.
If you turn it off, you will have to manually assign an ip address.

That is an empty key phrase then.
You have to make sure to enter the correct key phrase. It's 26 characters long for WEP128.
But, I would suggest you upgrade your security scheme.
WEP128 is not very secure and easily hacked.
Bump it up to WPA2-PSK with AES encryption is my suggestion.

Wep can have a passpharse of at least 10 characters and a key of 26. Either way it's unsecured as hell.

took roberto's advice. changed to wpa2-psk, now works like a charm. This weekend I will deal with port forwarding, getting on the portal, etc. Thx to all.

God luck with this one. I will try and watch for any problems I ran into. You will likely need to get a DNS account if you don't have one.

studying port forwarding. My stats are as follows:

ip address of RA: 192.168.1.104
port 2000
external ip address: 69.250.225.122

section on forwarding from my router manual:
Forwarding a Single Port
1. Enter the name of the program into the Application Name box.
2. Enter the port to forward into the External Port and the Internal Port boxes.
So I take that to mean: ReefAngel 2000 2000. Next it says:
Enter the ip address to forward these ports to into the To IP Address box. If you are forwarding ports so you can run a program on your computer, you should enter your computer's ip address into that box.
What goes here? It is defaulting to an address on the local network (192.168.X.X) Is this my 104 address?

Thx in advance.

Not trying to interfere, but 192.168.1.104 looks like a dynamically assigned address from your router. Routers commonly use 100-150 as DHCP'd addresses. So make sure that the IP address assigned to your wifi module does not change (static IP or static DHCP lease) otherwise you will have problems.
If you have already done this on your router or wifi module, then ignore my comments.

yeah, I thought of that last night after I signed off. I am going into the router now to look into the port forwarding. While there I will study on assigning a static address. I did this several years ago setting up a IP based printer. Thx for the advice to you both.

You can't do it in the wifi utility.
You would need to do it manually, but instead of assigning a static ip on the wifi attachment itself, it is much easier and also best practice to just reserve an ip address in the router.
Forcing ip address assignment on the unit (not only the wifi attachment, but a computer ot any other device), may give you problems in the future, because you also have to pre-assign DNS servers. If the DNS servers ever change, your ISP would probably not inform you and suddenly you can't resolve any internet web address.
But doing the ip reservation, the router will always give the same ip address and the most updated DNS servers to the wifi attachment no matter what, even if your ISP suddenly change servers.

Yep, what Roberto said. It's much simpler. It's how I do it. I did the static ip on the wifi unit and then I had a problem when I changed networks. It made it harder for me to update when I changed networks. I had to reconfigure the wifi module. Now I can switch it easier.

So I go into my router and just reserve the 104 address it grabbed at setup?

There is a section for ip reservations and you can reserve it by MAC address.
Some routers already offer the list of MAC addesses, but some don't.
This section is probably on LAN setup or something along this line.
You can find out the MAC address of the wifi attachment by looking at your DHCP table, which should be in LAN setup of status.

My suggestion would be, like Roberto said, use the MAC address reservation but pick an IP address outside of the DHCP range (usually 100-150). Once you pick the value/address, you will need to save the settings in the router then reboot your wifi module. The wifi device will pick up the new IP address and you will see it in the list of connected clients on your router page. After that, you will also want to change the port forwarding to be to the IP address you assigned to the wifi module.

Got this all working. Now live on the portal. Had to study and re-config my network. Discovered my Comcast box sitting in front of my router was a router\wireless\firewall all in one. Was scary for a minute (usually fight w Comcast for days when I want to change something), but they provided dox on the web and all the passwords printed on the router case.

So, very happy...At least until I start my next project :D

Connection Status: unreachable address

Post by joaocdestro »

HI!

I've made everything correct, and the portal works for a time... (everythings works fine, the relays in portal and iphone app ok.)

IT WORKS FOR JUST FEW MINUTES.... and than Unreachable Address!!!! I NEED TO PULL EVERYTHING FROM THE AC POWER, AND RESTART, THAN IT START'S WORKING AGAIN...

Fixed Ip adress for my Reef Angel GSX - 192.168.1.99 based on the mac adress.
Opened Virtual Servers PORTS: 2000 TCP/UDP 192.168.1.99
*I've installed dyn updater software to inform my dynamic ip adress...

Someone has a solution for this?
Regards,
Joao C. Destro
