Bluetooth Attachment
Re: Bluetooth Attachment
The BT attachment shouldn't be connected all the time.
It should only connect when you hit upload button.

This is the sequence of the events for my BT. BT is paired but not connected.rimai wrote:The BT attachment shouldn't be connected all the time.

1.Compiling Sketch - RN42-E657 not connected
2.Uploading - RN42-E657 connected
3.Uploading - RN42-E657 not connected
4. Problem uploading to Board - avrdude: ser_open(): can't open device "/dev/tty.RN42-E657-SPP": Resource busy
I think Arduino opens the connection and then closes it, when trying to upload the port is already closed.
I am using Mac Air with OS X 10.9.
Thanks

Re: Bluetooth Attachment
Do you have any more of these? And the multi channel water level expansion? When will they be in the store?
Re: Bluetooth Attachment
Yes I have both. I still need to create the manuals
I'll try to do it shortly. If you want them before I place them in the store, PM me.

Re: Bluetooth Attachment
It appears I'm not authorized for PMs at this time, and it looks like these are not available in the store yet. Could you tell me how I can go about ordering one. Thanks!
Re: Bluetooth Attachment
Thanks for the attachment, Roberto.
Has anyone had success using the attachment with Mac OS X? I was able to pair it, but it seems that I get the following error when trying to upload:
"Serial port <x> already in use. Try quitting any programs that may be using it."
The available serial ports are:
/dev/tty.Bluetooth-Incoming-Port
/dev/cu.Bluetooth-Incoming-Port
/dev/tty.Bluetooth-Modem
/dev/cu.Bluetooth-Modem
/dev/tty.RN42-FC3C-SPP
/dev/cu.RN42-FC3C-SPP
I have tried all of these, with no luck. Any ideas?

Re: Bluetooth Attachment
Yeah, that's one of the ones I tried. Same issue.
Actually, one time, I saw the error message that OceanWolf saw instead. But now I'm back to my original error message.
And then my computer crashed once after attempting an upload, which is a very rare occurrence with OS X. Not sure if it's at all related, but I figured I'd mention it.

Re: Bluetooth Attachment
Does the blue led in the BT attachment light up?
Make sure the cable that you use to connect to the RA is the one with 5 wires and not the one with 4 wires that came with the wifi attachment.

Re: Bluetooth Attachment
Looks like the crash was likely unrelated. Think I had a bad hard drive. Taking care of that issue.
On the other hand, I now tried this from another MacBook and experienced the same result.
I connected the wire that came with the Bluetooth adapter to the head unit with the black wire on the right. I connected the other end to the adapter, again, with the black wire on the right.
I used the wire from wi-fi adapter to connect the wi-fi adapter to the Bluetooth adapter. And again, I put the black wires on the right.

Re: Bluetooth Attachment
Sorry, I missed this question earlier. Yes, I do see the blue LED flash momentarily when attempting to upload the sketch.
Something else that's strange is that Bluetooth on my Mac acts odd when connected to the adapter.
Sometimes, the Bluetooth control panel locks up. After a restart, the system says that my Bluetooth is unavailable. It only becomes available again after shutting down and holding down the power button for a while.
This has happened on both of my MacBook Pros. I also use other Bluetooth peripherals on both laptops.

Re: Bluetooth Attachment
Clarification. If I see the serial port already in use error, I do not see a blue LED. If I see the resource busy error, I do see it flash once.
Also, I have tried resetting my PRAM, and I have added a /var/lock directory as suggested on some websites. Neither has helped.

Re: Bluetooth Attachment
Actually, it sounds like the version of RXTX that comes with Arduino doesn't use locks, so the /var/lock directory change isn't useful.
Re: Bluetooth Attachment
Also, not seeing anything using the port when I run lsof.
Re: Bluetooth Attachment
If you plug and unplug the BT dongle from your Mac, it should release the resources, in this case your serial port.
Are you able to connect if you unplug and plug the dongle back?

Re: Bluetooth Attachment
Bluetooth is built into MacBooks. There is no dongle. Multiple restarts have not improved the situation either.
Re: Bluetooth Attachment
Has anyone else had success on a Mac? If so, was it using built-in Bluetooth? What OS X version? Which serial port did you choose? Anything special to get it working?
Re: Bluetooth Attachment
Twice now, I have been able to see the following error:
Error uploading.
Rebooting Reef Angel Controller
avrdude: stk500v2_ReceiveMessage(): timeout
avrdude: stk500v2_getsync(): timeout communicating with programmer
This only seems to happen if I try to upload right after pairing, before the Bluetooth controller has an opportunity to disconnect.

Re: Bluetooth Attachment
When it did this, did the blue led in the module turn on?
When the blue led in the module turns on, the controller is supposed to reboot. Did it reboot?
Are you able to try it in a PC? I'm just curious to know what would happen.
Does it say the resource is in use if you use Coolterm to open the serial port?

Re: Bluetooth Attachment
Yes. The blue LED flashes briefly before switching back to green. Then the blue LED turns on again for a longer time. However, the controller never reboots.
I am going to give it a shot on a PC laptop next.
I have not tried Coolterm yet. I'll take a look.

Re: Bluetooth Attachment
Well, it needs to reboot the controller when the blue led turns on.
If it is not rebooting, make sure that the cable with 5 wires is the one connected between the bt attachment and RA. The one with 4 wires is to be used between bt and wifi.
If you are indeed using the 5 wire one, you may need to send it back for me to look at it.

Re: Bluetooth Attachment
Definitely using the 5-wire cable between the Bluetooth adapter and the Reef Angel unit.
Just tried on Windows, and I'm seeing the following after the blue LED turns on:

Re: Bluetooth Attachment
You wouldn't possibly have anymore of these do you? I don't see it in the store.
Re: Bluetooth Attachment
Yikes this is making me feel like a PC rookie.. (20 years desktop support in IT) one would think that i could figure this out
1st problem ide would fail with java error got that fixed by moving my schetch folder from my remaped my documents (on the server) to my local drive Error fixed
2nd replaced the dll and got my ide speed back up
3rd com port is in use error now (cant get around this)
I have deleted and reinstalled the bluetooth device drivers with the MS drivers
running windows 7 64 bit enterprize edition
so by default i did not have the out going comm port so i added that and now im stuck
i have the 5 wire cable connected to the RA and the 4 connected to my wifi (which works fine)
I assume this is a windows thing but im kind of lost on next steps..
also tested usb to ttl cable and that worked just fine
BT device that was found was a RNBT-41F0 so i assume that is the RA BT device
BT device when connected reboots the RA and the green light flashes (no blue light i dont get that far in the upload process)
