Thank you Roberto for the really quick turn around on the Wifi RMA. Your customer service is always far beyond anything other companies are willing to offer... Much Appreciated.

I have configured the Wifi unit, port forwarding is set, and have reserved an IP address for the Wifi's MAC address...

The green light is slowly blinking...

I am able to access the IP address:2000... how ever when I try to access http://IP:2000/wifi I am able to load the page, but it does not update any information. Unable to retrieve data message appears.

However, when I try to view it through the portal it shows unreachable address.. and the address that it is listing, is not my current WAN IP Address....

My RA code also does have my forum name

Code: Select all

   ////// Place your custom code above here

    // This should always be the last line
    ReefAngel.Portal( "ReEfnWrX" );
    ReefAngel.ShowInterface();
}

The /wifi is still in beta test. I know that it doesn't work on Chrome. Try a different browser.

Page can't be displayed.

The portal now sees my current WAN IP but still says unreachable address..

Your port forwarding is probably not setup right then.

Can you make sure you are selecting the same serial port that you use to upload codes to your RA?
Also, check polarity of the cable. The black wire must e on the right most pin.

That is probably related to the wifi security.
WPA2-PSK with AES encryption is the security that is most likely to not give you problems.

How do you suggest I changes the setting on the router. The Reef angel control says status:8330 already setup exiting... at this point the screen freezes

Hi guys,

I'm just trying to set up the wifi. I've been able to set it u seemingly okay with all the code and the attachment has the green light flashing. However i'm not sure how i connect to it using the app or the portal. When i try putting in my ip address in the internet with the /wifi after it occasionally it works but 90% of the time I get an error saying 'oops unable to retrieve data error' Also every time i try and do something using my mobile app I get a Error 15: Timeout and nothing happen, it says the last time it updated was 6 hours ago. When i try and use the portal the connection status says unreachable address and if i try and change something it says 'Only available with valid wifi address. Please make sure your controller is sending data to the portal web server.'

Any idea on how to fix this?

Cheers
Tom

The internal webserver /wifi is still in beta and only works with a few browsers. You may want to try with a different one.
In order to connect with the Portal, you will need to setup your router with port forwarding to allow access to your controller from the internet. There are several how-to in the internet or you may try calling your internet provider to help you with that too.
Some people have had good results with this software:

To make sure that it's putting out data that the portal or the apps will understand you can always do

http://your.internal.ip.address:2000/r99

and you should see an XML document which has all of the data that the portal or app would show.

Then once you know that's working you can work on the port forwarding to let the portal reach down into your ReefAngel to get live data and to let you change settings on your RA using the portal functions.

I've tried setting up port forwarding on my router but for some reason it's not working. I don't have a static IP address and can't get one, does this mean I can't port forward? I've never had this problem when i've needed to forward ports for games before.

Also overnight when nothing has changed at all, the blue lights on the wifi have started flashing. I've been asleep all night, no one has touched it so why has it randomly stopped working?

You don't need static ip. Portal detects your ip in real time. If you know how to port forward it seems like you don't have your wifi connected well to your router. I had trouble keeping mine connected to my fios actiontec router. You don't have one of those, do you?

Hmm no I have a netgear dgn2200v3. I'm not entirely sure, now i can't see the port forwarding exemption in my router settings and when i try and test to see if the port is open i get told it is closed. But when i try adding in port forwarding on my router it says that the rule already exists :\

So i plugged in the wifi attachment to my pc and ran the Utility as it clearly wasn't working. I seem to be getting a lot of Unknown errors and being told to take the plug in and out. Then when it does work and i try and connect i get this:

Your Reef Angel Wifi Attachment is now configured with the settings provided.
---------------------------------------------------------------------

If the blue LED is still blinking, it means that the Reef Angel Wifi Attachment could not connect to your wifi network.

Found router NETGEAR DGN2200v3 Router

Port 2000 is now being forwarded to 0.0.0.0

It will say it is associated and authenticated but my ip will still be 0.0.0.0 and despite only the green light slowly flashing it wont be connected and i can't see it on my network.

The other half the time i try and get it to work it fails to associate and authenticate and connect.

Any ideas?

Just thought I'd leave a final update here incase anyone else has similar problems in the future. Thanks a lot to Roberto's help we managed to nail down that the wifi adapter couldn't achieve a solid connection to my wireless network as the router was too far away. After purchasing and setting up a wireless extender the problem was fixed near instantly and now i have access to the portal features and can control things via my phone :D

Now to figure out how to connect from outside my wifi network :\

i think im having the same problem as everyone else. i can access my controller on my home wifi while connected but as soon as disable wifi on my android the app says connection timed out or connection refused. i also cant access my controller on the portal either. ive been reading all the different posts and nothing is making sense. i have port forwarding set up for 2000, and also have a static ip set up so it doesnt get a new one. can someone please help me. also when i open the app and look at the settings the "home" ip address is different then the one that was set up when i used the wifi program. i tried changing it but it tells me connection time out. i am at my witts end with this. i got the wifi attachment under the assumption i could access my controller anywhere in the world as im military thats the reason i went with the reef angel. can someone please help me with this.

Have you checked the site that sees if the port is open or not? Sounds like the port forwarding is not working still. You should use your home IP when you're on your network and your external (check www.whatsmyip.org) or RA DDNS while you're away. If port forwarding is working then you should be able to use the external IP on your home network as well.

If your IP starts with 191 or 192 then that's your internal IP and won't work outside of your home network. You'd need to use your external IP. If you open up the portal web page it's near the top right.

ok i dont know what the external ip address is. can someone break this down sesame street style? im not super tech saavy. i open my portal and theres no ip address in the top right corner. its just blank. also reset my router several time, re did port forward several times, took off all firewalls, re programmed the wifi attachment, gave it a static ip address, and contacted the manufacturer and ISP, and still cant access outside my home wifi. im getting really frustrated. i put in the wifi attachment ip xxx.xxx.x.x:2000/r99 and it works it shows me my authentication name and some numbers so the port forwarding is working on wifi, i just can figure out how to attach to my portal or how to access on my phone app using cell service. i live near oxnard,ca if someone wants to help.... but im officially lost... someone please break this down for me lol
