dumb PH prob question

My first PH probe. I cant seem to get it onto its port. I have pushed as hard as I can and cant get it to lock onto the 2 tabs. I almost get it but the red rubber part seems to get in the way. It must be easier to put on than this. What am I doing wrong?

The manual just says put it on but doesn't show how to put it on.

What red rubber part? Are you sure it's not a protection cap which has to be removed.

Can you post a close up picture? It should slide right on and twist lock closed.

that's what it was. I thought it was part of a water tight compression seal because it was inside the PH probe plug and didn't look like a cap. I managed to pry it out and it plugged in. I think that fixed it. Cheers.
