Hey Everyone,
Check out what came out of the oven today

It is a dual channel Jebao solar powered battery backup unit that will let you control two pumps with your Reef Angel controller and also keep your water moving when you lose power.
The battery is recharged using the power of the sun so you can rest assured that you will have a fully charged battery when needed.
The unit is engineered to sense power loss and switch to battery mode automatically, keeping your pumps running at lower speed until power is restored, at which point it will switch again automatically back to controller mode.

The unit is going to be sold at $125, which includes the solar powered charger, battery, the module and all the cables to connect them all together.
Be the first to order and you can get this prototype shown in the photos. Enclosure follows when they are available.

This will work on the DC Pumps too or just the WP powerheads?

Yes, but I'm not sure that the lower speed is able to overcome your head pressure.
I know I have very little flow on mine to be worth the energy to circulate water up/down the sump. I'd rather use that energy to have more time within the tank.

Understood. Something I'll take a look at when I re-work my setup and finally get around to installing the DC-6000 I got.

Hmm.. Will there be an option to just run a 12v wall wart for charging instead of the panel?

You could replace the solar charger with an AC one.
There are several battery chargers that would work the same.

Is is possible to connect the solar charge controller to the module directly? It should be able to power the module during the day directly from the sun, and from the batteries at night. I run 2 DC fans off the solar charge controller. They are not connected to the batteries directly, but through the charge controller.

Not sure if you can do that.
The battery and the charger are constantly connected.

What I meant to do is connect the battery backup module to the solar charge controller and not directly to the batteries. The module will still be powered by the batteries, but through the charge controller.

Roberto,
How's the response for this module? When is your next batch coming out?

Hey Roberto,
Do you have any estimated time frame for release of this? Very excited especially with hurricane season coming in a few months.
Also, I know you told me that a cable can be bought. Will you be selling extension cables or can could you provide us a link to an example of a cable needed to extend?

will it be recharge by our led Fixtures, MH, T5s or it has to be recharge by mother nature only?

Hi Roberto,
I have bought the unit, but want to substitute the solar panel for a wall charger. What max amp rating should the power supply have, 'cause I assume that you can't use any?
Also, will the actual control unit stop the charging of the battery when it's fully charged?

The solar panel is actually a self contained battery charger.
The battery is a standard 12V lead-acid battery.
You can upgrade it to a car charger and a car battery if you wanted to

Google: 12V battery charger. It should give you plenty of options. Don't use a regular power supply. They are not made to charge batteries.

Wow, that's cool, that means if there's a really bad power cut, I could connect the leads directly to my car battery in the garage and use it as a "generator"
Would this work as a "charger" instead of the solar panel? :

Hahaha... Yeap, you got the idea

Expensive generator... lol
That charger doesn't specify the battery that it can charge. Make sure the charger is made for the type of battery you are using, but I think it may work.

I just want to make sure I'm understanding this right...
Out of the box,The battery does not get charged unless by the solar charger?
It's not constantly trickle charged via mains power? (no 110v plug?)

Correct. Only solar.
If you want a trickle charger, you would need to get your own, but you can definitely plug it in instead of the solar.

Would it be much to swap out the battery for a LithiumIon bank or would the solar charger not be compatible?

You would have to get the bank and a lipo chrager, but it would too.
