Hey im sure I could look on the forums for hours and figure this out but im hoping someone can lead me in the right direction first. I connect the wifi attachment to the cables and run the program but its not letting me select the serial port. I purchased this RA unit from a friend it has way old software and stuff on it already I need to clean it all up and reinstall. having all sorts of problems connecting to it idk.

If it is not showing up serial ports, you may not have the usb cable installed correctly.
If you go to device manager on your computer, do you see anything missing drivers?

Also is there updates I should do to the controller software? Or can I do that after I get Wifi going to it?

Idk what I'm doing wrong I downloaded everything. I think I put the right info into the macro. When I open that program it asks some stuff and I'm screwing that up I think.

Okay I got it going but now the portal function here on the web site keeps saying unreachable address. updated my profile so it has the right ip address and port. any ideas?

So now I'm having trouble with the portal! It's a fight man. Lol. Anyways so I set my router ip address and portal so it stays and the portal is open. Still can't use the portal. 100%. Wanna be able to set time and update my software. Any ideas what's wrong? Modem support was looking for a subnet mask. Or something. Also the portal page keeps reseting my ip address when I try to connect so I have to go back into my profile every time.

Don't worry about changing the ip address. It is most likely auto correcting it for you.
You are probably trying to enter the local router ip address and it is not the one you want to use.
You want to use your outside ip address that is given to you by your internet provider.
You can see which one it is by visiting http://www.whatismyip.com/ from any computer inside your home network.
Your problem is that you must setup port forwarding in your router. Routers are set to block all access and assume they are all harmful.

Pretty sure I did that.i spent an hour on the phone with Motorola setting up the port stuff. Idk he thought there should be no issues. My dang firewall is even turned off still nothing.

Try your port forwarding here:
http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/
Make sure to use port 2000

See if this website can help you.

choose your router and follow the directions.

Okay I'll mess with it later but what your saying is I need to open the incoming ip address and port? The one I have on the portal is showing me. I was messing with the other one.

You're being distracted by the splash page after you click on your router brand. There is a "close" "x" at the top. Just carefully run through the site. It is FREE. Take your time so you totally comprehend everything.

Can you tell us your exact Motorola modem model #? When I have time, I'll look it up and see if I can walk you through it. Or perhaps someone else w/ the same modem can too.

By the way, do you have a modem only or a modem/router? Also, do you have 2 of them wired together or just the one that came from your internet company?

It's just one combo modem router with cable Internet. Btw thanks for taking time to try and help here. I've been happy with everything so far just trying to get this last step done here has kicked my ass.

I just went to that website that I posted. I looked for your router and the instructions. One thing that I don't remember needing to do is create a static IP address. (I went to the instructions for my router and it suggests the same but I am pretty sure I didn't do it.)

So...for forwarding, I used as an example "Apache" since RA will not be in the list. The concept is the same. The only difference is that RA uses port 2000.

Try that and see what happens. It would help to post what your ISP or Motorola suggested you do for port forwarding too if the above doesn't work. Good luck!
