WiFi Utility App Not Connecting (Mac)

I have downloaded and installed all of the components in the 1.1.0.dmg (FTDUSBDriver, Arduino, Wifi_utility) but the wifi app does not want to connect to the wifi adapter. I am using the same cable and USB port I am using to talking to the RA Controller (Was able to upload from Arduino fine using same port
/Dev/TTY.USBSERIAL-A603IBFT but it always says:
Opening Serial Port...
Verifying speed at 9600 baud
** ERROR: Connecting to /dev/tty.usbserial-A603IBFT
** Additional installation required to use serial, read the console below.
is there something else I need to do on the Mac to enable this to work? I specify the same port in Arduino tp the RA controller and it works. The cable is plugged in the correct way to the WiFi Adapter (leds are blinking)

Ok I used an older version of the wifi app and it was able to get past the issue before, but it says the IP address is 0.0.0.0. Green light is only light blinking.
Sorry don;t know how to add a screen shot here

If it is only green, it is probably because the router took a little longer than usual to assign an ip address to your module.
You can log into your router to check which ip address it assigned.
You will need to login anyway to setup port forwarding.

yes it looks like it must be connected because I see the Web Chart on the portal has some PH and temp readings. What is port forwarding needed for? Ability to control the controller from the web? If I just want to have the data log and not control from the web then I don;t have to setup port forward correct?

Correct. Only needed if you want to have remote control over the internet.
You can still have remote monitor and control using the smartphone app when your phone is connected to your wifi without port forwarding.
