lastly, won't use ATO (port 1), how can i set it up to use for my sump light?
thanks in advance.

I suggest you try the wizard first.
Go to menu Tools->Reef Angel Wizard

Did you get the linux package that Curt put together?
You cannot use the standard Arduino distribution or it won't work.
I don't think we have the wifi utility compiled for linux.
If you are interested in contributing, I can send the source code your way for a linux compilation.

How do I proceed? Is there a customer service # I can dial to get help?
I have an old computer running xp if that's easier just to get the wifi up and running.
Thanks

You can call me, but I'm not going to be much help with your linux box.
Did you try Curt's linux package?
You can setup the wifi attachment by sending the correct commands to the module.
Connect putty to your dev/tty-usb port at 57600 baud and type $$$ to enter command mode.
Then, send the following commands:
Code: Select all
set w s SSID
set w p PASS
save
reboot
That should get your module connected to your wifi.

its a long error message but the first 3 lines are as follows:
Exception in thread "AWT-EventQueue-O" java.lang.NoSuchMethodError:
processing.app.Editor.getBase()Lprocessing/app/Base:
at com.reefangel.tool.Wizard.run(Unknown Source)

That looks like an error you would get if you were not using the correct arduino IDE.
Make sure you run the one you downloaded from Curt's post.
Any other arduino IDE will prevent the wizard from running.
I have compiled a special version of the IDE in order to be able to implement the wizard. That's why it is very important to use the one Curt posted.

Thanks for your patience Roberto, I deleted and started again and got it to work so the wizard runs. however, still have not been able to get the wifi connected. in the wifi manual you give 3 methods to set up, the 1st of which you indicated won't work on my system. in the second method using the controller, i can't figure out where to amend the file?

If you have a Windows box, why not use that? You would be using tested, stable software on a supported platform.

That's the best bet. I used the WiFi setup utility once when I first got it (almost 2 years ago) and haven't had to mess with it since.
If not, maybe we can get method #2 to work, if you know your home WiFi settings.

Now, you need to set a fixed IP in your router for the WiFi adapter address. Forward port 2000 to this address. It'll save headaches in the future.

Check your router manual. If your router ever looses power, the IP address it assigns to the WiFi adapter may change. Setting a static IP in your router prevents this. On my Cisco/Linksys router it's under "DHCP Reservation".
Port forwarding makes sure everything that's supposed to get to the WiFi adapter does. On my router it's under "Applications and Gaming" and "Single Port Forwarding".
