RF expansion: Radion and Vortech control

Just purchased an RA. Haven't received it yet, but looking forward to it! 
Planning to use RA to control Radion and Vortech(s), but my DT is about 20' from my sump and the RA. Do I need the RF expansion to be near the DT? Do I use a long bus cable?
