Phone App with Xfinity (Comcast )

Does anyone use the phone app (android or iPhone ) with the Comcast router? I have been running the RA app on my android for over 6 months now. I just recently switched from the Comcast modem and my own router to their WiFi modem/router. Since doing so I have to keep switching from home and away in the app for it to connect. If I am at home on my WiFi I need to set the app to home or it doesn't update. Before switching I was able to have it set to away all the time and always works. It's like the Comcast router doesn't allow for connections to the public IP from inside the network. Has anyone found a work around for this? I never remember to switch between home and away.

Thats correct. What you can look for on your router is if there's a way to enable loopback routing which would allow you to reach your external IP internally or if you could override DNS names so you can point a name at a different IP when your home versus away.

I have looked to see if there is a loop back feature but don't see one. I also tried to use a dns name and but can't find a free, safe service to rerouter back to my IP.

I also have Comcast and was never able to get loop back turned on.

I spent almost 2 hours on with support trying to find someone who knew what I was talking about and they didn't even have a clue.

I have a service I use for work and have a dns name through that but I can't have a dns name redirect to a different IP.

That was why I said to see if your router offered any static dns entries you could add which would override the dns name used outside allowing you to use one configuration. Otherwise you'll just have to remember to change profiles. However, I thought curt's app allowed it to pick home when its on wifi...not sure I'm an iPhone guy.

I haven't seen any setting that would allow it to change when on WiFi.

my app doesn't automatically switch profiles. I suppose that is something that I can look into (amongst other things)

It would be cool if it could switch when connected to a specific WiFi network name.
