I have an expansion hub from the early days. It worked when I put it away 5 years ago but now all I get are intermittent bus locks when I use it.

Are there any firmware or code updates I would need to do to make this expansion hub function with the star? I've tried it with and without the 5v power supply and with two different usb cables. One cable worked better than the other. They're old so I'll go get a new cable if there isn't anything that can be done firmware wise...

The expansion hub doesn't have any firmware. It is just hardware.

New cable didn't help so I pulled the Expansion Hub apart. I checked resistance of all the resistors, they were all comparable. It looked clean and without corrosion.

I washed it down with 90% rubbing alcohol an tossed it onto a furnace vent to dry it out.

So far so good! At this point I can only assume there was some conductive debris I couldn't see that was shorting something. I'll post an update if anything changes...
