Code to reboot wireless?

Post by Smotz »

Hi - my wireless drops pretty often - every few days or so I can't connect to it.

Is there a way to reboot just the wireless module on a daily basis?

I wish there was an economical way to install Ethernet for this reason.

Are you on the latest firmware...there were some threads in the past that addressed the issue and there were fixes put in place b the manufacturer.

I did a quick search through the forum and it seems as though there's an option in the wifi setup wizard.
I wouldn't know personally though, since I've never used the wizard; )
Current setup:
60g 24" custom cube (fish and softies right now)
AI Sol Blue, Ecotech MP-10wES
Coralife skimmer
100% customer controller, transitioning to ReefAngel

Take a look at this thread for some discussion on it..

http://forum.reefangel.com/viewtopic.php?t=3091

I've never needed to do it myself...also there is another longer thread that had details on the issue and other workarounds like you mention which involved rebooting the wifi I believe. I'm sure Roberto will chime in with details..

Yeah, start with the thread above.
The new firmware 4.0 needs to be handled in a 2 step process.
Roberto.

When my WIFI drops out (which fortunately doesn't happen all that often), I remotely power the RA off and then on again.

I use a Ninja Block (see ninjablocks dot com) (connected via ethernet) wirelessly controlling a Watts Clever socket via 433MHz .

There is a Ninja Block web app, which I use via my phone to turn the socket off and then on.

Not really a cheap or automatic (though it presumably could be with appropriate code - and you can use the Ninja Block for other things). It's got me out of trouble a few times.

Check out reeftronics also. They can notify you if your device is offline more than an hour and gives great graphs from your RA data at the same time :)

Since I updated with the new firmware my wireless does not disconnect, or at least if it does disconnect it reconnect very fast because I have yet to notice an offline moment.

I just returned from a one week trip and getting info from my tank was peace of mind.

I didn't upgrade my firmware yet but I did upgrade my wireless. I went from a watchguard firewall with built in wireless to a Sonicwall with a Sonicpoint access point. Hasn't dropped since.
